How do I quit the union? i didnt want to join, i was just handed the papers and told to fill them out because kroger needed them. it didnt mention a union on it. i didnt want to join or pay the 9.91/week ($515.32/year!!!!) of MY hard earned money. I was told by a couple union reps different times i had to have been in it before i could quit. one said 6 months and one said i had to quit within 15 days of working there for a year. Well, the "big boss" woman who handled all the paperwork for my store was in a few weeks ago. I saw her and told her I needed to quit because i NEED MY MONEY and dont want to waste it on a union. She said she had the files for the union in her car and shed be right back to get them. I was currently checking out at the uscan in front of the door. she went out, waiting til i wasnt looking and drove off and never came back. neither of the other union reps could tell me how to quit or how to contact her. So, how can I quit the union? Now that i've unwantingly wasted almost $500?
Look into the union constitution when getting double talk from reps. Here is one thing I have found out over the years. Signing up is just like any contract. They can let you out anytime they want on your request but they can withhold union dues for the full calendar year you are in, from signing up. SO if you joined in lets say , march 1st , then your calendar year for that contract, is march 1st .You need to send a certified letter to them ( several weeks before that date ) the union you are in and one to HR and the payroll department. I have known of many times people have gotten out of the unions but have had to continue to pay the dues until their anniversary year because it is a contract you sign to join.

if you "need" money you're better off working elsewhere. You'll end up quitting anyway.

i plan on quitting. but im in college and need money and while kroger refuses to work with my schedule, it was the only place around here that was hiring.
i DID know it was a union store but a bunch of people are NOT in it and never were. its optional at my store. im pissed cause i need my money.
if you "need" money you're better off working elsewhere. You'll end up quitting anyway.

Yeah, Kroger likes to prey on vulnerable people. We're just victims, us college students...
Right before your anniversary of joining the union send them a certified letter saying you want to leave the union. It worked for me in Texas at least.
