Automatic Donations
Permalink

Does anyone know how to take off the automatic donations to the United Way on their paycheck?  I was donating every year $1 a week, but I noticed a $11 a week decline in my check and can no longer afford it.  Usually they approach you each year to ask how much you would like to donate, but this year it was automatic.

I would start with your Accounting dept.----but be prepared to fight with them. I've heard horror stories of trying to disengage from United Way.

I don't donate to United Way for several reasons and won't until they're addressed. If you really want to help YOUR community you should buy the grocery bags Kroger makes for like "Super Bowl of Caring". I'm going to buy one of the $5 "Protein Pack" that we offer to help the needy.

Criticism and scandals

William Aramony, CEO of the national organization for over 20 years, retired in 1992 amid allegations of fraud and financial mismanagement, for which he was subsequently convicted and sentenced to prison.[9]
Ralph Dickerson Jr., a former CEO of United Way of New York City, was found to have used United Way funds for personal expenses during 2002 and 2003. He later reimbursed the money.[10]
Oral Suer, CEO of the Washington, D.C. chapter, was convicted of misuse of donations in 2004.[11][12] Norman O. Taylor, Oral Suer's replacement, was never charged with misconduct but was forced to resign.[13]

I asked the store associate manager about it, and she said she would check into it. There was also one other employee that wanted to do this. Otherwise, I would have to wait until the next "signup" period. Thanks for the advice.

I would talk to someone in payroll. They usually have the answers more than the ARM would.

Thanks, I'll try that. Didn't think about the payroll person.

It's not on there. Not for us, at least.

I just gave her my EUID number and she talked to the payroll person for me. I just got my paycheck for this week and noticed that the donation was not deducted, so it worked. :)
