Asked to sign a safety paper!

A few weeks ago one of our CSR's was bagging for a cashier and got hurt.  What happened was she was lifting a turkey weighing in around 25 pounds to put in the cart and the netting around it broke and fell on her foot breaking some toes.  Well she went to the doctor and wouldn't allow them to keep her off work or file comp papers because it would affect her other job at a doctors office.

Anyway a few days after this management at our store started going around the store trying to get employees to sign a paper stating that safety is the responsibility of the employee.  Well noone would sign and the shop stewards got wind of it and nothing more came of this.  Have any of you out there heard of anything like this?

It's happened on more than one occasion at my store I tell them no thank you and if they force me to put something on the paper I write refuse to sign in print

in the past month or so at my store, we have had 3 'injuries' in our deli. for each one, management has brought down one of these forms for all of us to sign.  on this particular issue, i actually have no problem signing it. i'm sure if I or we force our cards, we could refuse

Dont sign that stuff. Its called "department safety standards" and its a crock of ****. Ill post up the meat one soon.

 You can be terminated for the things in the papers you sign. If there was a "Can't chew bubblegum and walk at the same time" clause and you do that... they can, and will, fire you because of it. No matter how silly or insugnificant it seems at the time. Signing anything will, most assuridly, come back to bite you.

I would also like to add that I don't sign things because I don't do personal bargaining. I have a union for that kind of stuff, don't you?

I've seen those safety standards papers and I've signed them when asked because I don't want to make a scene about it. :(

 It states on the paper that it can lead to  disciplinary action up to termination. I will show you the "Department Safety Standards" soon.

Basically it goes like this:

No Cutting Glove? FIRED!

Lifting more than 25 LB? FIRED!

Cleaning saws without unplugging them? FIRED!

Cleaning saws with no kevlar glove? FIRED!

Didn't clean up a spill? FIRED!

DO NOT SIGN ANY THAT RESEMBLES THIS! They've been passing around papers about the department safety standards and at the bottom of it where you sign it says something along of the lines of "may result in discplinary action including termination".

Lifting more than 25 pounds?
I like how one time I was given a bakery skid to put away, that had a 50 pound box of deli turkeys on top of it so it was above my head.

Just a quick remark.....at my work place per our union stewards.....the only thing you have to sign is your paycheck.....and thats the way it is at 783 in Ashland Ky.
