Can you be written up for not working overtime? At my store management constantly tells us that we have to work until the entire truck is run and store conditioned or we will be written up. We are very short-handed and have some very lazy full timers who will waste the night on their aisles. I have heard different responses from different people including union stewards. Some say part timers can be held for up to 8 hours but no mandatory overtime, others say management has to give you a two hour notice before having to stay over, and others say they can hold you for as long as they want to for any reason. The union manual is unclear on this particular issue. Also, management says we have to always ask before we leave. No other department in the store is even allowed to work past their scheduled shifts let alone over eight hours. Is management allowed to do this or should a grievance be filed?
In most contracts it's usually stated that you work your scheduled hours unless you and the company agree to overtime. They can't FORCE you to work overtime.
