While I think a minimum wage increase would be a good thing for millions of people in this country, I unfortunately believe companies like Kroger would ultimately turn it into a bad thing for millions of people in this country. Corporate and those at the manager level aren't going to just stand by and watch their checks shrink. Kroger and other stores will have even fewer people on the clock than they do now while at the same time, raise prices on groceries that their employees and customers buy. Those that are making minimum wage now won't even have a job if minimum wage is raised and for the rest, that increase will not even be seen in the paychecks because hours will be cut and grocery bills will go up. It's a no win-situation because those at the top will not take a pay cut and will still want to make sickeningly huge sums of money while everyone at the middle/bottom will be given as little as possible to get by on. That's just the way most companies operate and we aren't in any position to force change. If unions had the kind of power they once had, maybe things would be different, but without a strong union organization in this country and with Republicans still holding on to power to an extent, companies are free to use and abuse their employees beyond what should be considered fair and reasonable.
