Vacation Hours

I work 40 hours a week, but my vacation is for 38.5 hours. Why am I losing that last hour and a half?

your vacations are your average hours worked in the last year. so if you ever call in, leave early, or start late then your avg hours worked goes down. i'm not sure but i think if you take a PH, or get a day off for national holiday your avg hours per week goes down too

Was there any week you didn't work 40 hours?  Under my contract, It says, "In the vacation qualifying year, if a full time employee works forty(40) weeks (notice it doesn't say consecutive weeks) and averages forty (40) hours for each week, the full time employee shall be eligible for forty (40) hours per vacation earned."  Otherwise, it's an average of hours worked.

You are full time you should still have 40 hours of vacation time.

are you serious? you mean in the "normal world" and not at Kroger, right.

kroger has been averaging vacation week hours for years now.  i never get a full 40 hour week.  but i never work a full 40 hours either.  the less time i work there and get the hell out, the less miserable I am so I am happy to trade in 2 or 3 vacation hours in order for me to escape the hell on earth i have to go to 250 days a year.  i try to call out sick once every couple month or ask for a 32 hr work week in order to just not be there.  all this effects my vacation accrual.  and i'm fine with that.

I've always felt this average time for vacations are crap. If you factor in all my overtime for last year I should have about 42 hours in vacation time.

Some Union contracts (like mine) require the company pay you 40 hours for vacation if you're Full Time no matter what.
