Think corporate got wise to this board?

On Wednesday we all had to go upstairs and take a computer test on data leaks. One of the things they talked about in the test was posting negative things about Kroger anywhere online, including forums. It made me laugh.

I had to sign something like that a long time ago, but no one has ever said anything to me about anything that I have ever posted on this Board.

I hope so. Other companies are using all the idiot kroger changes as an example on what NOT to do. By the way, I hope whoever overbought on the pistacios and the blueberries down in texas got FIRED. But i am sure you gave them a raise and a promotion. Idiots.

I wouldn't worry too much about them anyhow and don't ever sign it. We're covered by the National Labor Relations Board and the 1st amendment of our constitution that allows us to discuss working environments, wages, etc.

I'm not worried. I just found it funny.

There will never be anything to worry about as long as you stay anonymous/never use your real name or reference your store. And by the way, YES, these major corporations do monitor these sites for negative publicity. I know that for a fact.

Oh, and if you think you're protected under the First Amendment? Think again. I mean, who says they'd fire you for that? There are a THOUSAND other reasons they can get rid of you, if they really want to.

Don't give 'em the reason.

Oh believe me, if they even hinted at trying to fire me for my right to speak it would be war. I know all types of dirty little secrets some of which would go terribly wrong for them.

The First Amendment prevents the government from limiting free speech, not Kroger.

Kroger can fire you for posting on a forum in a negative manner if they choose. Whether it is right or not; or fair or not fair is different. The 1st Amendment protects the GOVERNMENT from limiting freedom of speech and other forms of expression. Kroger however can take the steps to limit the freedom of speech because of two things. Kroger does not equal the government. Second, Kroger is a private company by signing whatever waiver about public statements and the press can cause a person who posts on here in a negative manner reflecting Kroger result in their termination if Kroger so chooses and can PROVE the person indeed post violating that signed paper or policy.

I work at a Kroger store about 15 minutes away from Kroger HQ.  I have been on this site for over 2 years.  No one has come up to me and done the "forum nazi" on me.  regardless - this is a very tame, harmless site.  We're not on here protesting or rioting against our employer.  just simple conversation.  so who give a rat's ass about what goes on here. right?  right!

The first amendment protects your freedom of speech from being stifled by government entities.

Concerted discussion about work conditions, including discussing issues about your employer with your coworkers, are protected under Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act. In essense, it's the same section of the Act that protects workers when they discuss union activities (or try to organize), or protect workers when they meet for a beer after work and talk about how the new manager's policies are putting people in danger.

While you are protected under the NLRA, it behooves us all to be careful and not to push the issue when possible. Talking about new policies here is one thing; making a facebook post about how you think the new cashier is a **** is entirely another and will likely get you fired. It can be a fine line.
