New policy. They want the dumpster locked at all times unless a manager is present. Even the backdoor people aren't going to have access. I plan on piling my trash back there and leaving it. What a bunch of crap.

It must remain locked for a number of reasons, the main one being for loss prevention.
DSD vendors are not to be trusted and could stash product in the trash and sneaking it back later after the DSD receiver has invoiced them.
Employees could do the same by storing product in the dumpster and later retrieving it without paying for it.
It also controls scan out shrink by making sure you are scanning out damages in CAO and not just tossing it without updating the BOH.
Another reason is safety.
No one under 18 is allowed to use the compactor, so by having it locked up would make sure that the operator is over 18. Anyone having the key to the compactor would me of age.
Now so all stores follow this, heck no.
The only time we lock it up is when we have company, loss prevention, or a key retailing check.
It is too much of a hassle to keep it locked up all the time and to have to call for a manager with a key and wait for his ass to get up off his chair.

If ours stayed lock, they would have to have a manager by the dumpster all day. Also, if I were storing product to take home without paying for it, I sure as hell wouldn't store it the dumpster. The only time ours is locked is if it's not there.
Each department in our store has a key to the compacter. I know at Kohls dept stores only managers have keys because employees would just throw stuff out instead of doing their job right. Such waste and laziness.

there should be a key floating around to go get or the manager will make a page for a dumpster run.

In the county of Los Angeles, it is required by the health dept that they be locked to help against vermon. Even though it is not policed often they will issue a citation if unlocked
our store only locks the compactor if it's full so that people don't throw too much more stuff in it. What's locked more often is the back door that leads to it (for purposes of loss prevention). If you need to get the power jack out there to stack something (like bottle bins) then you're out of luck if a manager isn't immediately available to unlock it, which is my pet peeve lol
So you are saying the keymaster goes through all of your boxes and trash looking for perfectly good product? My azz.
no i'm not saying that at all. what i'm saying is that by locking the compactor it makes the employees more cognisant. things that shouldnt go into the dumpster will always happen but if we can help minimize it ....

Arent there cameras on the back dock anyway? Wouldnt it be easier to punish the one responsible instead of frustrating those who did nothing wrong? its been pretty busy up at my store, my department accumulates so many bags that we had to bring shopping carts back just to hold them for T-Time. Am I alone on this? This just seems silly.
