 My thoughts exactly..

I can give you some of the more popular codes and anything that's in my head right now. Also, it's best to just look for the code on the apples because some look exactly alike. (3283, 4135, 4131, 4103, 3294, etc.) There's just too many different kinds to know really.

4011 Bananas

4062 Cucumbers

4166 Sweet Onions

4161 (New one for Yellow onions that I've been getting instead of 4166 now)

4593 Long Cucumbers rapped in plastic

4067 Zucchini

4073 Potatoes

4816 Sweet Potatoes

4050 Cantaloupe

4782 Yellow Squash

4017 Granny Smith Apples

4608 Garlic

4612 Ginger root

3221 Red potatoes

4066 Green Beans

I might be forgetting some of the more popular codes, but I can add to it if you want me to.

Celery 4070

Green Peppers 4065
Red Peppers 4088 or 4688
Yellow Peppers 4689
Orange Peppers 3121

For the summer...

Watermelon (seedless) - 4032 (most people get these)
Watermelon (seeded) - 4031 (larger with more oval shape)
Cantaloupe (small) - 4050
Kiwi - 4030
Lemons - 4053
Limes - 4048 (people get this with their Corona beer)
Grapefruit - 4289 (millions of other codes for this one as well)
Nectarines - 4036
Peaches - 4044 or 4038
Plums (red) - 4042
Plums (black) - 4040

Also, these are good to remember:

Kroger Water (24pk) - 11110-49213
Kroger Water (32pk) - 11110-80332 (this one will save your back)

Back when I was a checker we had lookup numbers instead of plu codes.  They were only 1 or 2 digits.  They had to be used for eggs too because they didn't have upc numbers on them then.  I can only remember a few.

5 lookup: jumbo eggs

6 lookup: extra large eggs

7 lookup: large eggs

8 lookup: medium eggs

50 lookup: head of lettuce

These I'm not so sure but I know I'm close.

51 lookup: broccoli

52 lookup: cauliflower

53 lookup: fresh carrots

54 lookup: celery with no rubber bands on it

61 lookup: celery with one rubber band on it

62 lookup: celery with two rubber bands on it

produce codes are universal they are the same all over. some have more than one code and just because we dont sell everything on the list does not make it wrong.

There is also a code for a book of stamps, which I found out from this forum. It is 6531. You might want to ask your supervisor if it's ok to use it. I asked mine, but he never got back to me on it. It would be good to use when you can't find a barcode for them on your register.
