General Merchandise. What do they do? Complain about everything.

They put out many of the non-food type items.  At our store they put out the health and beauty aids (shampoos, razors, cosmetics, pain relievers etc.)  They're also the ones who change the promotional aisle for each holiday or season.  For some reason, candy also falls into this category and I think tobacco products do too.  Anytime you see some doodad hanging on a hook in some weird spot it's probably from the GM department.

It is an odd category.  The candy and gum at registers is drug/gm along with tobacco, coffee filters, soaps, lotions, cosmetics, baby items, cosmetics, OTC meds, vitamins, suppliments, razors, office supplies, food containers, bake and cookwear, cleaning products and seasonal items.

I forgot batteries, lightbulbs and all that good stuff.  And candy.  Lots and lots of candy.

another way to look at it is...

the big main depaprtment is GROCERY then the off branches of them are the obvious Frozen and Dairy.  Non Food (GM) handles most of the taxed items and crfap you can't eat plus all the stuff that isn't located down the main aisles.
