Can Kroger make me stay past my scheduled time even if I am late?
Like say I over slept and was scheduled 8 hrs. From 6am -2:30 with lunch. But I didnt get there till say 7. Could they make me stay till 3:30 to make that hour up legally even if I already have other plans outside of work?
I of course was scheduled today but over slept like ppl do all the time in my department, "we come in at 4am". And got a harassing voicemail of my boss telling me to get my ass to work and then being a smartalic in a text to me saying I had to stay my whole time no matter how late I came in. So I was a 1 1/2 late. Which would have put me working over that much past my scheduled time. But I have another job I do and had to head to that at the time they wanted me to stay over. So I called and said I was going to take a personal day for the day instead so I wouldnt have to stay but they said I couldnt and then said I still had to stay my full shift. Even though there are cases in the past with others who have taken personal days since they were so late.
I didnt know if I could take a personal day on that day of work without prior notice or If I have to stay past my scheduled time even if I am late.
I'm really not trying to be an @sshole..maybe... :) But get up on time, man. The people who are constantly late are the ones who b!tch because they got fired/written up,etc. for being late all the time.
I have no pity for tardiness. It's one of my pet peeves. Learn how to manage your time and be responsible.
You don't want to stay? Then don't stay. But don't whine and cry if you get fired.
OK, so maybe I don't care if I'm being an @sshole. Things like this are ridiculous and most people wonder why managers are basket cases.
Could you have called and taken a personal day from your other job?
Our managers try to keep the deli closers over their scheduled time. They changed our closing time so now we only have half an hour instead of an hour to clean up, and they get mad and tell us not to leave if something's not done. Screw that, I leave when my schedule says I leave and not a minute later.
You were 90 min late? That's ridiculous. At my store, management would just tell you to go home if you come in that late. They don't play games and they shouldn't. They can just replace you for that shift and give your hours to somebody with a better work ethic.
I've been late like that once or twice in my career. Usually it was due to the power at my place blinking on and off when I was asleep during the night. I would call and tell them I would be in ASAP and they would go ahead and let me work the full shift. But I learned that its better to have two alarms so I use the one in my cell phone. Ever since then I've gotten to work on time with no problem.
Don't modern alarm clocks also have a slot for batteries in addition to being plugged in? When the power goes out they switch to battery. All my alarm clocks are like that...

4 am is to early to come in, no matter what department you're in. I'm scheduled to come in at 5 am, but I don't get there till 5:30 because I can get the work done just as fast as I would coming in at 5:00. It's also more convenient to have that extra half hour at the end of my shift rather than at the beginning, especially if you have to put up orders and the truck is late. Getting an extra half hour of sleep is nice too. You wouldn't think a half hour would make much difference but it does.

Quite frankly, I'm amazed people use regular alarm clocks still. <said kind of tongue in cheek> I don't even own an alarm clock! I have a toddler.
Actually, I use my Iphone, which holds a charge quite well and doesn't go out in power outages.

Really, dude? Get over it. The fact that others have gotten away being irresponsible is irrelevant. There's no excuse for showing up 90 minutes late and expecting to get out of having to work the hour and a half that you missed. In my department, people who do things like this and then cry about the consequences get scrubbed out and passed off to whoever will take them pretty fast because none of us have any tolerance for this sort of behavior.
