So.... during a remodel, do the stores ever have to shut down or do they always get done while it's still open?
Because I found out tonight that the whole back wall where our sink is and things like that is becoming a produce cooler once our remodel starts. The whole back wall where our donut case is is going to be produce.
I don't get how we're going to be able to work around it, unless they're moving the whole deli and bakery down farther?
We're going through a major remodel and expansion right now now. Trust me, the store will stay open. Since everything is moving, they have to install temporary coolers, freezers, and other equipment. Right now what used to be the breakroom is now a produce cooler and prep room. The break room is now in what used to be the co-managers' office. The co-managers' office is now upstairs. Since they're adding on to the side of the building where the pharmacy drive-thru is, they're going to have to build a temporary pharmacy building out in the parking lot. They're basically having to construct extra space so they can move everything around. You can't move one department into the location of another department if that department doesn't have somewhere to go.
It's supposed to be a $4 million remodel and from what I've heard, it's extensive. It sounds like this is going to be a disaster. :(
Every day there was a new temporary list of what was on a given aisle. Customers were crawling around buggies stocked high of product and shelving being moved or dismantled. It was chaos and having been back to that store a few times, I don't think it's ever completely recovered. It looks like an unconditioned warzone.
We had a complete remodel 2 years ago and they closed the store for 3 1/2 months. The store was gutted - complete remodel, everything moved around. We all had to work at other stores the whole time. Of course, the people at the other stores got pissed when our employees with seniority went in and claimed their hours.
We just had a remodel done because HEB is building across the street from my store. Believe me your going to stay open and have unhappy customers because they can't find anything. You'll also will have to relearn each aisle. What we did we had a list that tells you 90% of where they moved things. It'll be chaotic.
