Cash loss.

In our service desk we have  hundreds of dollars missing because things are rung up wrong or we thin making small but costly mistakes. We use codes for everything. Any suggestions on how we can reduce our cash loss. Only two people run the service desk a day and only the opener and closer can loan money to tills. we really need help.

loss prevention needs specifics or they can't do much.

dates, times, people.  they need info.

if it's really just people being sloppy try to be better organized and less frazzled throughout the day.

I am talking about when we ring up a bill on the register then type it on the bill payment machine. ( check free) some people may put in the wrong amount. Which looses us money. Stuff from people trying to rush.

You said it yourself. slow down and think is key. I've seen people fired for ringing up a doughnut wrong.

I used to run the cash office at a very large retail big box.  I am trying to understand what exactly happened here in losing $100.  It seems like the money wasn't really lost rather it was rung in wrong.  This should easily be found by going through the day's EJ's (electronic journals)  If it is an even $100 variance then those mistakes are easier to find.  I wouldn't be surprised that a company like Kroger actually has a place at corporate office where they actually have the staffing to research such issues.  Phone calls are made between the stores to help explain the situation better then they can go off on the hunt to remedy the error.  Once found, it is corrected in the books and a quick report is written up explaining what happened in triplicates and all who are involved are retrained on the situation so it doesn't happen again.

Well many krogers leave that job up to the in-store bookkeeper, who takes care of it the next morning. They tally all the actual totals from bill pays, western union, ticketmaster, gift certificates, expense payouts, money orders, lottery, etc. and make sure the line numbers match the totals. If not, they fix the line numbers and if there is a large difference they track it down.
