Maximum Suspension Time
Permalink

Either I've been suspended for three weeks, or I've been terminated without notice.  The Union is (theoretically) investigating things, as termination shouldn't be an option as this is my first suspension in four years.  Still, I'm looking for a new job, but I don't know if I still have mine or not.

I can't apply for unemployment as I haven't been notified.  I'm out of money, having to tap into my retirement funds to survive.  I was supposed to be on vacation next week, (does suspension override vacation if I'm still technically employed I wonder?) I'm at a loss on what to do.

One would think that six years with a company would get you better treatment.

that sounds a little extreme for forgetting to initial off on a sales tool, maybe they are using this as leverage to get rid of you for another reason? are you part time or full time? made any enemies at work lately?

well if you've been there 6 years, you're probably making pretty decent money (for a kroger employee, that is) - it's likely that your pay rate doesn't fit into the new wage system. kroger wants as many people as possible to be working for minimum wage. some jackass in an office somewhere probably decided it's cheaper to have 2 part timers and find a way to get rid of a long-term employee. (see: circuit city)

Oh, I absolutely did miss signing two initials on the Deli Product Planning and Sales Tool, and prior left things in the Quick Chill overnight. I'm willing to admit my error, I just wish I wasn't being left in the dark.

untill you are offically notified, in writhing, legally you are still employed, and get you due vacation.

I had three weeks when they axed me, and I took all three, back to back, to help with bills.

they can keep you suspended, litterally forever.

ussually, it lasts untill the union gives up, and they will contact you when they do, and send you a letter.

krogers plays the game.

they suspend you, pretty much forever, union, either tries, very slowly, to help, our dicks you around, hoping you will just quit, so they don't look bad.

you most likely, fired, if not offically. just assume you are, and get another job. do NOT wait, or pass up any jobs.

my case drug on for 6 months, i been there.

good luck

That's a bunch of ****. Your union contract spells out the time periods for grievance steps - something like a step one requires a meeting within one week, step two requires a meeting within 2 weeks, so on. A suspension pending discharge is a step two matter. If your union rep sucks ass and can't get their **** together, take your complaint higher up to the union. Start contacting officers and executive board members. This is inexcusable.
