I feel like im getting a lot of training.. but its all different depending on who is working that day. Ive been taught tons of "shortcuts" with my co-workers saying "just dont let management see you do that." So.. of course management will come around and see me doing something I shouldnt do and mention something Im required to have.. which of course I dont even know where is located. Anyone else have any interesting experiences? Im sure most people dont really *like* to train newbies.
If i didn't have a friend who was willing to help me out there I would have sank.... hard. I never got proper training from anyone and was given a really hard time because of it. I thank god for my friend's help every time I go to work. Whenever I can I try to help others by showing them the correct way to do things then any shortcuts afterward.
It's rough.

Training was alright for me it was 1 on 1 same guy every day and I knew him before I started working here. I think if you were thrown to the wolves so to speak it could be a very harsh learning curve.
i'll be honest and admit that my training was pretty damn good. this was because they were opening up a brand new spankin store and hired me plus a bunch of other dudes weeks in advance. we all got sent to various kroger stores in cincinnati for a week or two prior. i remember one day they told me to go to Norwood. I went there and was shocked at how crappy the deli was and walked out after 4 hours. when i went back to the new store to tell them, they all laughed and agreed and said no problem! i told them "if you want me to learn how to do things the wrong way, thats the place to go" anyways, i got pretty decent training so I am lucky. But I have seen a lot of others get very littlle to no training.

and my management training for deli was a complete joke. it was 2 weeks of going to some place and listening to a bunch of non-sense. everyone who is picked to go pretty much graduates.

Pharmacy tech here. Training was pretty much non existent. Got my training manual a month and a half after I actually started the position and the only reason I completed the computer modules was because my pharmacist was being pressured about it. After 3 months, I already have the feeling that Kroger is a complete joke. Oh well, the experience will look good on my next resume.
cashier training varies. when i was hired my trainer was there 5 minutes and i was on my own. if something came up i had to ask.
at my store we now try to get a couple trainers over a few shifts.
ask questions.
take your time when it comes to payments. don't listen to what they tell you they gave you, count it aloud. count your money when it comes out of the drawer and count it back to them.
always check expiration dates while you're checking id. make sure you understand what ids have to be entered by management.
ask questions. don't assume. be curious.
since you're new and they'll know you're new, if you get an extreme couponer GET HELP.

Thanks for the advice. I have a feeling I'm going to need it. I start work next week and only just had orientation and four hours of computer training.
