Here was a situation that happened to me today: After bagging someones order, I started walking to bag another lane because it was in a desperate state. While I was transitioning, this one lady with her re-usable bags asked me to help her with her order. After a little thought, I politely said that I couldn't because the other lane needed to be bagged. I don't know if the customer was upset at me or not, but I think that an "overflowing" lane that hasn't been bagged yet should take precedence over helping bag someone's order that just started sending items down the lane. Eventually I returned to that lane and said that I was sorry that I couldn't help her right away. Did I make a wrong move? or was it just a selfish customer? We were short baggers so I was already scrambling around quite a bit.
Was she rude to you, or give you any reason to feel like she was upset? You explained and then came back, apologized and finished help bag the order. I see nothing wrong here.
i usually say "ill be right with you maam" without saying anything about what else i need to do, because they dont care, as long as they know you will help them in a timely manner. if you literally cant do it in a timely manner, its krogers fault cuz there should be more baggers scheduled.
and yeah ... the one with stuff stacking up comes first because that customer has probably been waiting the longest. that lady cant expect to get out faster than another person
Yeah, "i'll be with you as soon as I can" would have probably been a better way of saying it, instead. You're in the right though. You aren't magic and can only help 1 person at a time.
There are times when I've been literally pulled in 5 different directions and had to make a quick list of priorities. Just do your best. Reusable bags have nothing to do with this except they are annoying as ****.
