Some of my pay is listed under "relief pay."  What does that mean?

If head or back up head clerk in a department are on vacation or absent and you take their place, then you get their rate of pay, which is relief pay.

One of my coworkers told me that she was supposed to get relief pay on the weeks our dept. head is on vacation. she has to run orders and do inventory all the time and yet she's never gotten it, She's even told people she's supposed to have it and it doesn't work.
So you're lucky you're getting it!

Relief pay just doesnt magically appear - you need to be somewhat proactive to get it.  One store I worked at, you simply wrote in the "Days Off Log" your name and that you are to get it for the week.  Then the person who does payroll will grab the log at some point to process whatever needs to be processed for the week and will see it.  At other stores, you literally need to go hound you co-manager or store manager to enter it in.  Point is - don't expect anyone to give a rat's ass about what you want or are entitled to.  Go get it yourself.
