I started working at kroger in july 2011 when I was 15 years old, turning 16 a month after I started.
I started off as a bagger for the first year. Then when the flower tent opened the summer on 2012, they had me work out in the tent. After the tent closed, I was moved to floral permanently.
I have been working in floral since. For the first couple months I was getting paid $7.35 (as a bagger I started at 7.25 and got a ten cent raise being a bagger for the first year) and then about 4 months ago I got a raise to 7.45. My last pay check was &.45 and the one I got today was for 8.50 an hour. I have almost been working here two years. Should I have gotten that dollar raise randomely? was I supposed to get that raise to 8.50 when i first moved in to floral permanently. are they using me for money?
is this something i need to contact the union about to help me?
The above is very true. they can pay you whatever they want, even if it is below minimum wage when your a minor. I started as a bagger making around 6 dollars an hour.
We need some more info to answer your question. Where / what district do you work in? How many hours do you work a week? Did you work that many hours always or did you work less / more?
In my district, a sacker receives $7.25 / hr to start. Then after working the 1st 175 hours, you receive a 10¢ raise. Then you work 250 more hours to get another dime; then another 250 for the next dime; then another 250 hours for yet another dime. So right there you work 925 hours and your pay rater will be $7.65. Then after that you work 500 hours to get the next dime and 500 more hours for the next dime. Then.... it goes to 750 hours for 10 more cents then 750 more hours for one more dime.
For Floral - they don't make $8.50 /hr until a good 3 to 4 years in. So i'm not sure why you got that raise but just take it and be happy
