Deli to Assistant Customer Service manager, is this possible?

Okay, so I have worked at my store as a Deli Clerk for about a year and a half now, and I honestly HATE the deli, but want to move up. I always see bids for ACSM and was wondering if it is possible for me to even become one. Help?

Would it even be worth signing if I have no front end experiance? Would I just be automatically turned down?

No. Yes.

I just got a position as an ACSM after working as a cashier, bookkeeper, CS desk worker, and such for 5.5 years and I still feel overwhelmed at times.

Having no FE experience would make you wholly and completely unprepared for the job. The only reason I got the job over the other candidates was that I knew everything about the front end outside of office-related tasks (scheduling, supplies, disciplining, budgets, etc.) and some of those tasks as well and I told them so in the interview.

to survive you need that front end experience.  for ACSM you need to know how to cashier, do overrides, deal with equipment failures, deal with unruly customers, handle money services, floor supervision, WIC, couponing, scheduling, tills, suspicious activity reporting, pickups, loans, self-checkout, the various lobby machines like lotto and coinstar, etc, etc.

get up front, ask to be cross trained, see if you like it.  then pursue things.

another option is to learn the bakery end of things.  also - does your store have Murry Cheese or any kind of gourmet cheese?  How about Starbucks.  Learning these can then lead you into advancements.
