1. Staying at the register and not running off to do a price check personally when a customer questioned the price of a package of dog bones. There were long lines , and as usual, no courtesy clerks available. Dog bones rang up at $2.69, customer said she thought they were $2.59 (10 cents difference). 5 minutes later when I finally got a courtesy clerk to go do a price check, it turned out the SooperCard 10 cent discount expired on Dec. 25. This was in January 2013, so since the scan coordinator was off on Christmas, he had failed to remove the yellow shelf tag. I gave her the package of dog bones for free. She didn't like my "attitude" and called the Store Manager and complained.

Result: Store manager wrote me up for poor job performance and gave me a 1 day suspension. I filed a grievance with UFCW #7, went to a Step 2 meeting with the Union, but it was a waste of time because the Union sided with the Store Manager and let the write up stand.

2. I am checking out a customer when I ask another employee a question and have a conversation with him. The mentally retarded bag boy at the next checkstand sees this and reports me to head clerk for "poor customer service". ( I guess this did not meet up to the mentally retarded bag boys standards of "customer first".)

Result: Write up done by the Store Manager and a 3 day suspension. Again another grievence filed, Step 2 meeting held, and again the Union sides with the Store Manager and lets the write up stand.

3. I am on a break and leaving the bathroom. I get about 25 steps from the bathroom when a customer asks " Where's the bathroom?" I turned around and pointed to the sign "Restroom" and said "Right over there" . Customer phoned Store Manager and complained that I was "rude".

Result: Store Manager wrote me up and gave me a 5 day suspension. Again, the grievance was filed, the Step 2 meeting was held (all 3 of these Step 2 meetings were held on the same day) and the Union lets the write up stand.

They have to give a verbal warn to you first before moving to the next step. Why didn't you tell them this?

One time an employee aucually one of my friends that was working at Kroger at the time. He kelp calling my cellphone. The assistant manager told me to tell the person to stop calling. This guy kelp calling over and over. My phone rang again. The manager said let me see that phone. He answered and ask the guy why are you on your phone and not working? Neither of us really got into trouble it was kinda a joke thing. But the manager did tell him to stop. My friend did not talk to me for a couple weeks.

my first write up

making cardboard bales has always been a issue at my store, nobody wanting to do it.

so, to combat problem, a chart was drawn up, and each dept, had a day they had to make bales, and initial said chart.

all had to sign a "i understand the rules' paper.

I got wrote up for not making the bale, and not initialing the chart.

thing was, i was on VACATION when the whole thin was conceived, and never even told about It.

they claimed i WAS aware, because i signed "i understand rules" paper

which was impossible, because i was ON VACATION!

basically, someone forged my signature, but it still held up, and was on of the write ups they used to ax me

yes, the union well knew, and dismissed it as a problem as it wasn,t the LAST write up.

never mind, if it was thrown out, like it should have, i wouldn't have a third write up, just two

Wow that's crazy negligent on the parts of the company and the union. You could have easily come back with a wrongful termination suit and won IMHO.

courtesy clerk in texas: worked at kroger for 7-8months

They called me in to ride about how I was bringing in carts. For some reason, if they see you holding only one cart, they assume that's all you do.

How I collect carts; first I get the big amounts out of the corrals(we have about 12 of those),

then I pick up the strays that people leave lying around when they're too lazy to get to a corral,

and I even go up to customers that seem to have finished with their cart and ask if I can take it for them.

This actually brings in a lot of carts fairly quickly.

They happened to see me from the cameras collecting some strays that were close to the doors, one at a time.

I was also talking to the lady we had outside doing samples of ribs, seeing if she needed anything like more foil or plates trash taken, etc.

I don't know why but they seemed to see this as a huge issue and told me they were giving me a verbal warning and I should have learned how to collect carts by now.

(my first day: cleared the lot without being asked; 30 minutes after getting in trouble: brought in 96 carts in less than 15 min.)

what do these people want from me  :(  ?!

They want you to be a robot.  That's what they want.  Kroger doesn't care if you or anyone has any ideas about doing things better.  They want mindless automatons.
