I was reading a recent Rewards flyer with updated rules on the rewards points and how they can (ie can't) be used. Points are now are only good for two months. Not only that, but they are tallied monthly, and separately, and one month's points can only be used at a time. When you use your points at the pump, the month that has the most points (of the 2 eligible months) will be used. They will not be combined.
For example, if I have 400 points for May, and only 350 points for April (which expire at the end of May), May's points will be eligible for use at the pump because May has the most points. And you will only be eligible to use the 400 points, not the total of 750. If you don't go back before the end of May, April's 350 points will also expire unused.
And now that points expire so aggressively, people won't be as easily saved for when a customer can use them most efficiently, ie when their vehicle's tank is empty, rather than needing to use them simply because they will expire soon.
That is how it has been. Mays points expire at the end of June. You can't hold onto them forever. The whole point of an expiration date is to get people back in to spend what they have...and then some.
Yeah the points have always expired at the end of the next month. The whole "higher unredeemed discount will apply first" thing is newer, but it has still been in place around a year or longer.
