I'm a Courtesy Clerk, but I'm also a Front End Supervisor, I run the office, and I run U-Scan, as well as bagging and running the registers.
Every day I'm scheduled, I end up doing all of these jobs, jumping from task to task without hesitation, hoping I'm not asked to go shoot holes before I get all the breaks/lunchs out of the way for my staff.
I've been with the company for a few years now, and even though I am able and do run all of these tasks every day, I only make $7.55 an hour.
Is this legit?
When does it start feeling like I'm appreciated for the amount of work I do, and less like taking advantage of my skills for the lowest dollar amount possible?
Uh, most courtesy clerks can only bag and clean, as dictated by most contracts....
Definitely something worth looking into. Check your union contract.
(As a matter of fact, why do so many people come on here asking certain questions when it would take a matter of minutes by just reading the stupid book!?)
Front end supers make more money than courtesies. Depending on your contract, they owe you for work done in said position pay. Check with your shop steward and union.
under the ATL division contract front end has to classifications... courtesy clerk and cashier. front end supervisors are just cashiers, there's no premium. even the full timers are just cashiers unless it's the front end manager or backup.

here in Michigan we have: -customer service manager & assistant customer service managers: they run the customer service desk and do accounting, and sometimes wear the red vest to act as front end supervisor. they make about $18.00 per hour.
-customer service helpers: these are just part time cashiers who have been there a long time who sometimes work behind the desk but usually just wear the red vest and act as front end supervisor. they still only get paid as cashiers, so top out around $15.00 or something close.
-cashiers: run the registers & uscan. periodically will wear the red vest as f.e.s. when needed. no extra pay for it, just cashier pay.
-baggers: bag groceries, do carts, cleaning, trash, bottle return room, basically dirty work. they only make minimum wage which is $7.40.
All this being said, I think it's really weird that other divisions and areas have people who do all of these different jobs all for about minimum wage!

I'm a courtesy clerk (carts, bagging, cleaning, etc) and if I were in your shoes, I would be demanding cashier pay for doing those duties. I make 7.50 for doing bagger stuff.
Yeah, I am service desk (closer and opener), overnight scanner, bagger, checker, grocery clerk, front end supervisor, and I made minimum wage. 7.35 for Missouri. I can not live off of this anymore. Especially for doing so much, and they try to teach me more! To do more! My bills and the cost of living continue to go up. Working for Kroger is a joke - I am openly looking for somewhere else to go. Even after two years...
I love the job and the people, but not worth it if we are not equally respected.

Ditto. I work at 773, and I basically do everything but work in the office, but I'm only getting paid $7.45. Supervisors at our store don't get any extra pay, nor is it some kind of "reward" for actually doing your job well. Other stores in the area give their supervisors an extra dollar. As well, after being hired as a cashier and being one of the better ones in the store, after being FES for several weeks, I have been demoted to bagger for most of my shifts lately. Needless to say, I'm thinking about looking for another job...
They told me the only way I would be able to make anything over 8.55 (with is our 'cap pay') was to wait around for a manager's position or transfer. Not an option to simply move away...
