Ok so today after work my brother tells me someone called today offering me a job interview.
I looked into the company, decided the job wasn't for me (i'm really not qualified enough for it) and politely turned the guy down when I called him back.
You guys are probably already thinking I'm crazy but the thing about it is that I didn't really even want to consider the job. I mean, even though Kroger isn't exactly the best paying job ever, I DO get along with the people there and would miss them if I left.
My question is am I insane? Am I turning into a Kroger robot? :P Or is it perfectly normal to be more happy with people you like instead of whats the cushier job?
I'm sure I wouldn't have gotten this job anyway though. The guy was looking through old resumes and probably assumed that by now I'd have the 1-2 years experience required. Which I don't.
No, you are not crazy. Kroger is like a big family and even though there are times that it may seem rough (as in any other job) your working for a good company and you will have the chance to advance. I have many friends from other stores that I have worked and would not trade them for anything.
Depends on your contract. We have 4 or 5 tiers on our contract. Tier 1 is old timers-Gravy. Tier 2 isn't so bad. Tier 3 is not as good as tier 2. Tier 4 is horrific. The most a part time employee will ever make is $10.50 an hour unless they get hired full time. I haven't seen the newest contract so I do not know if there is a tier 5.
You will never know what you missed out on unless you try. Go for the interview. Do not burn bridges with Kroger. Ask your union rep how this will effect your pay if the other job doesn't work out and you need your job back at Kroger. Speak with your store manager if you are compfortable. Most likely, you will have to start over at 0 senority.
No, Kroger is not the most glamorous job but I enjoy what I do. I am paid reasonably without an education. My job is not rocket science. My job pays my bills and meets my needs.
I believe a several theories of life that I try to live by. one of them is that you always need to parlay yourself to embetterment. the question is when on that on. next theory is what we always seem to take the path of least resistance. its easier to keep things the way they are than to do change. third one is that we create our own happiness wherever we might be. this is because we have to. no need to feel miserable all the time right? lastly, the world wobbles a little when it spins. this means that things aren't ideal or perfect but somehow we can conform to it and get by.
good luck to you with Kroger, grasshopper

I found the job posting last night. I thought it was odd that they contacted me, I didn't ever contact them. But I suppose it was because they were looking through resumes, looking for someone who had graduated and hoping they had experience by now.
Basically, they need someone with actual job experience in that field, which I never got. They want someone to be a leader on projects, where I would definitely not be qualified for. I really didn't even want to make an ass out of myself anyway so I politely turned down the offer. :X

Heh, I think ours is $8.90.
I just checked the handbook. Tier 4 Clerk/cashier(hired after 6/18/2010) tops out at $12 an hour if they become full time. Minimum wage here is $7.40. They are stuck at $10.50 unless they get hired full time.
