eschedule is just another way Kroger beats on the little guy!

Ok,  so up in my region (and I hope someone with some authority can read this) they have have created probably the worst kick-in-the-face device called 'eschedule'. Now a computer makes our schedules and literally screws mine up to no  end. I have worked for Kroger for 6 years, and I am constantly getting screwed here. Between shoty managers who don't care enough about their employees, or where favoritism is a daily routine (managers have subordinate drinking buddies, which allow the drinking buddies freedom to do whatever they want), they have brought in eschedule. Eschedule is a good idea, but with poor execution and deplorable software. I am 4th highest in my department with about 10 people, and this scheduling stupidity decides i need to work more nights than days. For a while now I have been working 8-4's or 6-2s which with my seniority is natural. I now do not have a life, or managers who care enough to modify the schedule. I am constantly being taken advantage of in this company and any higher management should be ashamed to allow this. For God's sake, after 6 years, I only make $8.65 an hour. Where is the justice in this store?

Also, I believe it is completely wrong that someone with no prior work experience in her 40s, who only worked for the company for 5 months, should be promoted to a position with more authority than me. She does not do any work, and I specifically have complained about her constantly, but because she is a drinking buddy of my manager, she receives special treatment and is promoted. She is power hungry and it all went to her head, which I warned everyone about, but no one listened, or cared. Our district coordinator was the one to promote her, and she is not there enough to see how this woman acts. She constantly goes over her direct superiors head and calls the manager every time she doesn't get her way or is given an order she doesn't want to do.

 

Long Story Short: Kroger is probably one of the top 3  worst places to work, after sweatshops and unwanted prostitution. At least people shoveling animal dung at the zoo get paid more than a dollar above minimum wage after 6 years of loyal working... I hope this paints a good picture to all the viewers.

I want the union to get rid of Eschedule badly! That, or maybe the higher ups can see what a horrible decision they made and take it away. Walmart tried doing it, but they got smart when they realized it messed everything up for everyone. Eschedule needs to go in a big way!

Except it's not going away. It's not just your division. It's been being rolled out across the enterprise for a while now. And if the union could or would do anything about it, they would have already somewhere in one of the other divisions that have had it rolled out for a while.

 I would be having a chat with your union representive. your seniority outranks her.

I hate e-schedule. It screws up the schedule so bad. One time e-schedule put me down for 7 days straight at 10 hrs per day. I didn't say anything because management wants us to follow e-schedule. So I got overtime!!(yay!) but I was dog tired. They naturally decided it was my fault, until I told them I was following e-schedule. Now they monitor it "better" but it still manages to screw up.

 All around thing.  Each store is phasing it in at different times.  We start at the end of the year sometime.

eschedule will only be as good as the schedule writer and the manager overseeing that scheduling.  in my store we don't know what to expect.  lately we've had people scheduled in two depts, for separate ... even overlapping ... shifts.  It's one thing to work one dept and then move to another at a certain hour but this was just bizarre.

it usually takes me 2 seconds to find a problem when the new schedule comes out.  honestly, i'm tired of reporting the problems needing to get fixed because 9 times out of 10 they weren't fixed before the schedule was 'set.'  at this point, if it doesn't effect me directly, i let it go and whoever gets there any particular morning will have react and scramble.  that's what they want.  they didn't want to be proactive so i was just wasting my time.

ESchedule will start here in the Kroger Central Division sometime in the next month or so.  I will keep all of my forum comrades on how it goes. I don't see how Eschedule can trump over a person seniority.

 It's supposed to schedule people based on seniority. Like on my schedule for example; I'm at the top since I'm the lead, then full timers based on hire date, then PT'ers based on hire date. When I run e-schedule I get the "best" schedule. It sets me up for M-F 9-5. That's fine twice per week, but not how we do it since everyone closes one night per week. I have no idea how its set up to schedule people the hours they work, perhaps there is no formula. Our district trainer did not mention anything about it. He just told me to do what we usually do for our department since it's not the norm like grocery/FE, etc.

Please do. Midsouth rolls it out this fall so I'm expecting training to start soon. Idk how many people from each store go, but I'm an ACSM and my lead told me if only 1 goes, it's gonna be me. Which means, since I don't know one way or the other, I potentially may end up having to be the local expert once it goes live.

Every time it has been discussed with/by district staff they have spoken pleasantly of the system and pretty much said all the bugs have been or are being worked out. However, having read what I have on this forum for the last year about the system I am starting to have serious doubts already.

Whatever you experience with eschedule, I expect to go through the same thing a couple months behind you, so any hints/tips/tricks/insights/problems/solutions you can share would be helpful. I have a good working relationship with our district FE coordinator, so if something comes up you've already experienced and I can throw out a solution to her, midsouth D3 would be grateful lol

That was what I was hoping would happen, but they have announced nothing yet, so I wasn't sure. Still, my dept head said if it came down to him or me, I was going to training. And since FE does the most with the schedule (and he is getting tired of schedule writing) it looks like I'd still end up the local expert lol

E-Schedule is a big ball of ****ing ****. I haven't been with the company but 10 months, but I'm Status 3 and have 5 PT'ers below me. But still, I close the deli every night I work at the PT'ers are getting off between 5-8 pm. Serious horse ****.

You have seniority so roll their schedules. You can claim the shifts of anyone below you in seniority, provided you can do their job.

You have seniority so roll their schedules. You can claim the shifts of anyone below you in seniority, provided you can do their job.


 The problem with that is, none of them work over 5-6 hours a day. I don't want to take their schedules and then **** myself out of 8-15 hours. The only way I could do that is basically if I took their schedule and they worked mine.

Sorry about your situation--your manager obviously doesn't care enough about you to go in and adjust the schedule (yes, they can do that) like ours does to fix it after the eschedule creates the "recommended" shifts. good luck!

If you are full time it is hard to bump part time 4 hour shifts, you have to bump 2 people working consecutive shifts. Their way around this??? Put a 15 minute gap between the 2 shifts so you can't bump them and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it! I have been in my dept 5 1/2 years I am currently #2 in senority soon to be #3. I have been working 7-3 for 3 years. I just recently learned I will be losing most of my 7-3's if not all to part timers who have not been there nearly as long. They will now be scheduled 7-11's!!!!!!!
