Working at produce, but getting called up to do cashiering

That's pretty much what you need to know. I always got called up because I was decent with it and I was not afraid to ask for help. If I needed help I called whomever was wearing the red vest. i'd always explain to the customer that I only got called up to ring people out when we got busy but that I usually worked in dairy or grocery. People would understand, and I learned a lot rather quickly.

Biggest lesson I learned was...being a cashier SUCKS.

Just got a crash course to be a backup cashier at my store. Training was only about 4 hours (not including the WBL) and was rushed so I dont feel comfortable running the register besides a cash or maybe a produce wic transaction. What should I do?

Keep track of the hours you spend on the front end they will deduct that from  them.

Sounds almost like the old Team Stocking Guide everyone hated. confuse

As for calling people to the front to help, it is now a program Kroger has sunk a few billion in, it's not going away too soon. Beyond that, Kroger LOVES when people are cross trained as that is one person less they potentially need to hire. All you can do is go up there, do what you can, and keep pushing that they hire more people or at the least call people other than you every time.

I will be the last person to go up there if they need help

best thing you can do is try your best too get the worst elms score and then they will leave you alone. I strive too get a 50% or lower. They never bug me too run a cash register since I try too suck on purpose.

four hours is more than I got when I was hired to be a cashier.  scheduling is supposed to be done so at least moderate spikes in traffic are covered.  relief help is meant for unexpected spikes and shouldn't be used for too long. Fifteen minutes on the outside.  FE supervisors are instructed to simply bridge the gap between when the spike hits and when the called relief arrives so they can go back to queueing customers.

i've seen nights were i had more cashiers than registers and nights were i was scheduled to supervise myself.

if you suck on purpose some supervisor will have to work with you on elms.  they'll be held accountable for your bad score.  seriously.  it's how it goes in my store.  if you refuse, it's insubordination.  only management is allowed to suck.

Actually, if you want the problem to get any better, 15 minutes is the bare minimum time relief help should spend on the register.

Assuming relief checkers have been set up with operator numbers in the correct range, elms will begin to correct the expected number of cashiers and budgeted hours for that time of day, but only if relief help is on the register for 15 minutes or more.

that's a good point techelite.  if it's not 15 minutes, elms won't care and the problem won't be 'fixed'

And in my personal opinion, it's the major component that most comments, especially on this forum, are closer to "those motherf&*@#$s won't stop calling me up to check all day" than "meh, I've been up front to check once or twice this month"

No I suck on purpose because I am a dairy clerk not a cashier. I always get stuck doing all the cashiers breaks because the front end manager has too "que" (aka texting and talk too her friends) But I am not going too help the front while the front end manager is upstairs doing nothing but playing games on phone and barking orders over the PA... Its her front end, not mine... And I have gotten the lecture on improving my elms. I don't care about raising it.. i'm going too get paid more for a perfect score they will just call me up there more often, and take me away from working products on the shelf.
