Step back...NOW!!!

Ok, I am on one of my days off (reduced hours, not regular day off) and in my store purchasing something with my debit card when this customer decides to get up close and personal. I ask politely to step back and instead of doing ad I asked, they remain in the same spot. I ask again...they remain. So I sigh loudly and do my best to cover the pin pad making sure they know it is an inconvenience to me. Them they ask why I'm all upset and inch closer. Finally I loose it; "YOU. BACK. THE. HELL. UP.... NOW!!! They back up and DEMAND a manager. Manager comes and pulls aside irate customer, talks to them, Customer leaves looking "pleased." Then as I'm getting ready to leave they call me to the office. Of course I ignore it and go about my business. A while later a buddy I work with told me 'that it was a good thing I stayed away because management was getting ready to form lynch mob'. Now I'm worried. Is this calls for suspension, should I get ahold of my union to be safe? I doubt they can do anything to me... I wasn't on the clock and not in uniform but I'm a well known guy there. Usually I don't loose my cool but that Customer had it coming, and
NOT sorry I snapped.

Never ever lose your cool in a store ever.  Customers will cause trouble for you on purpose like this.

Do not sign a write-up.  Ask for your union steward if this gets you pulled into a meeting with management.

Ask the managers what you were supposed to do.

1.  Tell customer to back off or

2. Stand there and let the customer rub against you and breath down the back of your neck when the attention was not invited?

Do not lose your cool in front of the managers.  That is why you need your union steward at any meeting over this incident.

Call and speak with your union steward today or in the morning.  Good luck with it.

That's ridiculous. When you're off the clock, you're a customer and people shouldn't have the right to get in your face like that. But sadly you "poorly represented the company" so it wouldn't surprise me if they do try doing something about it. :(

This is a question of safety. You were afraid of being sexually assaulted and/or private information stolen.

Be sure to be serious and present this to management if you're called.

I'm seriously thinking if going in and talking tonnage meant before my next day of work. We have had issues of info being stolen before. I am not one to toloratr identity theft. I'll examine my actions to them and see what happens but I'm gonna have the union on speaker phone the entire time.

Tell them what happen when a union steward is around. If they try to tack action ask them to look at the camera. They will see you protecting your personal info on the pin pad and the person getting closer.

Here's what I do on my days off if I need some groceries:- I go to closest competitor, drugstore, Dollar store, fuel mart, etc. You need to stay away from your workplace for your peace of mind and so you won't be approached by some nimrod customer that thinks you're working.

You were not wearing uniform and yet the customer called for a manager. Sounds like the customer knew you worked there and was trying to get you in trouble. I would tell management that you were afraid the customer was trying to steal your personal information from the ATM and that you had nicely told the customer to back off twice before the customer inched closer to you.

If it happens again, tell the customer "I am afraid of people stealing my personal information." And then, YOU call for management on the CUSTOMER.
