hey guys, ive been working at a Dillons store for about a year now and i am absolutely tired of them taking full advantage of the fact that we are non-union. The other day i watched the store manager go the hell off on some poor replenishment clerk that was litterally working his butt off keeping the water stocked on a 102 degree day PLUS all the gatorade on sale for 50 cents PLUS milk/eggs/juice. He was doing a kickass job for being the only person doing it at the time but apparently not good enough for the store manager. Needless to say, she was just "fishing" for a negative reaction and she got it. He told her to back off, he was doing the ebst he could if she wants it done faster get someone over to help him. Her response: you're fired, go home turn your uniform in on payday when you get your check.
We really need a union for this type of stuff but apparently people have been trying to bring a union into the store for close to 2 decades with all attempts ending in utter failure and many people getting booted for even looking at management the wrong way. We are a "right to work" state so they honestly dont even need a reason. they could just walk up to you and tell you that youre fired. i hate it :(
If your doing your best and they are bitching at you to work faster when you are already at your FASTEST pace, i don't consider telling them to back off and get some more help insubordination. I just consider it management being a bunch of asses. If that were me i would have found some way to get back at that woman, find out what she drives, slash her tires and saran wrap her car. Thats just me though, ive worked retail for so long i dont put up with crap like that anymore. it's uncalled for and downright rude to do that to an employee thats throwing all that heavy stuff on a hot day by themselves.

We're in disagreement. To put it bluntly, you're wrong. You should always obey. Instead of kindly asking for assistance, it sounds like the guy back-talked. That's a serious no-no.
Sorry, maybe i should explain. He didnt say it in a way that could be considered "back-talk". He told her very nicely-albeit rather bluntly-that he was working as fast as he can and will continue to do his best but if she wants it done quicker she's gonna have to send him some help for atleast 1 hour to get caught up and she fired him on the spot. After he left (rather pissed i might add and for good reason) I had to take over his job for the rest of the day and let me tell you-it sucked....royally. I have worked at this same Dillons for 14 years now and have NEVER seen anything like what they had this guy doing. When it's hot outside its nothing for us to go through 3-4 FULL pallets of both 18 AND 32 pack waters.
Hold meanings behind their backs and oranize a union
And get fired.
I work with someone who was trying to organize a union at his last job. He got fired for it. He did fight it and win back pay, but the union isn't worth losing your job over. All of these issues people go to the union about can be avoided in most cases.

Why are you so quick to leave democracy and human rights behind when you step in the door to work? Sounds like this manager needs to be fired.

Totally agree.
Yes, let's tell that to a friend of mine who asked for her 2 weeks vacation pay and to their response was "only if you ask nicely.". They won't give it to her therefore the union will likely have to get involved or lets tell that to the workers who are told if you don't takeover this or that we'll have to cut you down a few bucks an hour. Some things can be resolved at a store level only if management is willing to cooperate.

That doesn't fall under "most" then. Fighting, calling off, tardiness, longer breaks, theft, telling off a customer, etc..all avoidable acts that get people fired or written up. Being told to ask for vacation nicely is a d!ck move by management and absolutely should be brought to the unions attention. Hopefully she got it resolved in her favor.
There is a very interesting documentary you can find on Netflix called 'Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream'. It covers a lot of territory re what has become of this once fine country, but there is some really fascinating info re what's become of the unions..... and why they're in so much trouble now.
I'm not going to engage in any more arguments on this subject. Anyone who's been here for any length of time knows where I stand on the matter.
I will, however, ALWAYS keep saying just this: If you're flexible, if you're open minded and willing to take on new challenges and, sometimes, unpleasant changes.....You don't always need representation. Represent yourself, wtf, you're G R OW N.
Last: I agree with SayWhat: Not all Democratic/Liberal campaigns are bad things.
