Is it that hard to keep your OWN dept clean??

as a utility clerk, i do a majority of cleaning the store, making sure the cart corral are clean, and making sure the carts are clean for our customers. The courtesies help clean too, but a majority of the time they are used for bagging, cart service, and assisting customers. well, we have this one guy in produce who is THE. MESSIEST. WORKER. EVER.  and that's putting it nicely. each and every single time he works, his dept looks like it was looted during the zombie apocolypse. Now i have other cleaning to be done but for some reason, i am ALWAYS in his dept cleaning HIS mess. I have spoken to management and they say they will speak to him about his work/cleanliness but so far nothing has changed. today, i spent 2-3 hours cleaning his prep area in the back and the sales floor BEFORE i could actually get MY work started. Should i just let his dept "go" and worry about my own tasks? or am i forever stuck cleaning up after this bozo. He works in produce and there is always some major mess to be cleansed

Does the manager assign you to clean his mess?  Keep track and lett he manager know how long it takes you to clean up after this guy each day.

If so, then it is your job to clean up after him.  I got griped out about how I put pallets in a freezer by a manager.  "I just crammed them in there".  Well, what I didn't say was "the freezer was a clusterf**k and it would have taken me 15 minutes to organize it for that department."  I said, "ok".  I was also told the freezer would be clean so all I have to do is open the door and park the pallets.  hahaha, right.  My manager has been complaining about how messy the freezers are for the last 20 years.

I have a day grocery manager that is a slob like your produce guy.  I know how you feel.  I hate when he runs backstock cereal.  I swear he fills the shelf and on his way out of the aisle, he tosses backstock cereal down the aisle randomly everywhere.  I usually remove 3 cases of cereal from the aisle and put them back on backstock after he runs the cereal aisle.  He's been there for 100 years, so I let it slide and don't get stressed about it anymore.

Don't let this escalate out of control.  Calmly let your manager know you would be happy to clean the mess in produce.  But it takes time away from your other tasks.

TheDude is having trouble over something similar to this so don't repeat history.
