Somebody better alert the Harris-Teeter store employees that in due time they will get a reduction in hours and pay plus no health benefits as they become micro-managed, forced part-time Krogerites...
True. Why buy another grocery chain for $2.4 billion dollars but somehow "not afford" to give Kroger employees what they deserve?
Me for one... You get what you pay for. For example: you want to pay me $5.00 For a full days work, you only gonna get $5.00 worth of work... No more, no less
Kroger paid $4+ billion for the 200 plus stores of Harris Teeter. With this purchase Kroger now has debt of over $12 billion and a bit over $250 million in their coffers. From 3/2009 through July 9, 2013 Kroger shares increased 87% while Harris Teeter increased 152%. They must be doing something right. I posed two questions to Bloomberg News concerning these stores: 1) Do they have Key Retailing (the report back was "Not sure") and 2) Are they a union shop (the report back was "non-union and expecting to stay that way.

This is quite an interesting turn of events. I have a friend who moved to North Carolina once tell me that Kroger's is fine for me, but that they'd never move in to North Carolina. He told me that Harris Teeter's has a stronghold in that part of the country, and they're doing just fine by themselves. Oh really? I wonder what he thinks now! What's next in Kroger's sights? Winn Dixie? Publix? Food Lion? Makes you wonder...
