their has been 5 part time workers given full time before me , and about a week ago I told store mang. im claiming fulltime because there was a fulltimer leaveing in my dept, and he said in his words"we are going to have a LONG talk about my full time" I ask him if that was standard to have long talks before going full time and he said no, I told union what he said (store mang.) and union man said , maybe its not for me, WHAT THE HELL, it because im gay and they treat me different.when I told OTHER store mang, that a my dept, mang, just called me a fag, and we dont like your kind here he said, the other store mang, started calling me up to the office and were harassing me so i would leave, calling me the worst worker they ever had, and a lot lot lot more, they really took alot from me, and it still gos on, im to a point of calling a attorny and the feds. my friends all say too call feds, they cannot do that to me, im a very hard worker and really like kroger company and did lots for kroger, its a very bad store im in, and everybody knows it, the union guy, the main one is not doing anything, he said if it happens again let him know, i told him i will not. so im thinking of going on line to feds to file a complaint.
I would do it. I know it's probably "illegal" to do so, but whenever they harass you or call you a faggot, have it recorded. That way if they deny it you have it on tape as proof. They can NOT do that to you based upon your sexual preference. If you are indeed a hard worker and did a lot for Kroger then they should have let you apply for full time status. It sounds like they are asking for a HUGE discrimination lawsuit against them.
What I would do if it were me and they harassed me on my sexual prefernc, then turned around and asked favors, I'd tell em' to "do it their ducking self" (well not really, but you get the point;...)
Follow your friends' advice, and pursue this if you can
Ask your manager to put what they said in writing and if they say no ask if they are ashamed to do so. Put it in writing you want to be full time and have them reply in writing. And yes after you're denied ask them why again and have your cell smart phone going to nail them when they bring your sexual preference in question.
Don't put up with it. I'm gay but not out. That's just my choice. My dept head is gay, totally out and for the most part no one cares. Sometimes I do hear what's said but nothing from management about it.
What part of the South are you in? We're in the Atlanta district.
Just because you are gay doesn't mean your not still a human. I like all people including gay people. Record them colling you names and see if you can get some witnesses. Also see if you can press charges for harassment.
Anytime management needs to talk to you ask for a union rep to be present with you. Never go in there alone. If they refuse to allow someone there to represent you refuse to talk to them in private.
Make sure to be as nice and polite as you can. Do not allow someone that you see as "on their side" as your representation. Always request that the door be open during these talks.
If you feel uncomfortable - tell them so. If they continue tell them you refuse to talk to them anymore, and may leave, if they are being vulgar. Make sure your rep knows you'll be doing this, beforehand, and is willing to back you up.
record any conversations you may have that could go south depending on your states single party consent laws.
