Doesn't make sense

Yes, they said we can't scan the Kroger Plus Card barcode off the phone.  But I've found a way to get around this.  Just type the card number (leave the last digit off) under Alternate ID on the register.  For example, if the card number is 425840261975, type in all the numbers except for the last #5, and the register will accept this just like the person's phone number.

The main thing with the smart phones is you CANNOT scan coupons off the phone.  I've heard of lots of cashiers getting fired for this.

Hope this helps.

Ok so you have the kroger app on your phone for e coupons and the plus card for the cashier to scan. At my store we are not allowed to scan the loyalty card off a phone? Doesn't make sense . Kroger is the one that made the app and we have to tell customers sorry I can't scan this? It doesn't make sense to me. is my store the only one not allowed to do this?

At our store if its a Kroger app we can scan the plus card. But coupons must be loaded on the card. Not t be scanned.

Oh yeah I know coupons are a no no Off the phone. Just so crazy. If I was a customer I would be irritated because its an official kroger app.

Just as your front end coordinator from the corporate office. Because it is a corporate enterprise policy that you can if its a Kroger app.

If you get the same discount as you would on the card then why is it not allowed to scan smart phone?

I think someone's confused about policy.  Loyalty cards on phones presented by the official apps are OK company wide.

Obviously, as you know, digital coupon bar codes are a NO.

I agree. I think there has been some miscommunication because there is absolutely NO reason cashiers should not be scanning plus cards off of the phone app.

The reason we can't scan coupons off of a phone is because it's fraud. Anyone can take a store coupon, type the bar code numbers or take a picture of the it, and the app will generate the exact bar code with the same code. That's why they scan & will work on the register. However, if people are doing this with coupons for free items or something like $5.00 off next shopping trip, Kroger loses money with store coupons that weren't issued and from manufacturers not reimbursing the company because they require a paper coupon to be mailed back to them.

Kroger plus card on someone's phone is FINE, just make sure it really is a kroger card and not them sneaking a coupon or something.

At my store we were told not to scan Kroger cards off of phones because it could download a virus and mess with our system at the register.  I don't know if that's true because I started after the whole fiasco, but other cashiers and managers say it was a nightmare.  We just type in the card number, but not under the alternate id on the pin pad, we do it at the register instead.  As for coupons, we are told not to scan those off of phones, they need to be on paper for us to collect or downloaded onto the Kroger Plus card.

I don't know who told them it could download a virus into the system, but they're way off. The worst it can do is be a barcode that isn't in our item files and it will say "item not found"

I agree it is highly unlikely to be hacked but:

A programmer familiar with the programming might know secret codes to access sensitive data at the register.

For instance the CSM uses a card with a bardcode to overide certain transactions.  Or, to reboot the system?

I was told the reason the CAOs log us out after being idle for so many minutes is because someone could be sitting in the parking lot and access the wireless feed.  Very unlikely, but retail sabotage is not out of the question.
