New Contract

Why is it that the Kroger contracts keep getting worse with each new bargaining agreement ?  I work in Michigan (UFCW 876) and the current contract is worse than the previous one !  Part timers top out at $10.50 an hour after 5 years and only get 2 weeks vacation max ?  This is the best the union can get for us ?  This is utter horse **** !!  But the old timers are under a different contract and pay scale because they have been there for so long so they get paid better and can accumulate up to 5 weeks vacation time !  Where is the fairness in all this ?

why because all the old timers are the ones going out and voting dont like what your getting rally the troops get off your a>> and vote.

i have been with kroger over 10 years and i never vote yes on a contract.

remember the last contract was rushed through to avoid the new right to work laws in michigan so it basically was the union looking out for it's own self intrests instead of yours.

Don't worry, we got our hours reduced from 32 to 28 hours as well. That ought to help balance things out.

Anyhow, the union is only looking out for the old timers. Take a look at the union board. Some of the main board members are also employees who've worked there the longest. Where do you think their interests truly lie? Your benefits and pay? As if.

Hey OP, you could try asking them for a copy of the contract then sue them if they don't supply one.

board members don't vote on contracts. the rank and file does.

I suggest being more vocal with other members and in other stores about bad contracts. You have to pressure the company into offering something better with NO votes.

This also has to be balanced with the economic realities of what the stores can afford.
