Soo the college I'm attending offers floral programs and certification I was wondering, if I get a certification how likely am I to be bumped up to floral lead?????? I have been at this flower shop for 5 and a half years now as a back up which is cool but I don't get paid enough. Plus I'm stuck with only 28 hours sometimes. I have a one and four year old, I need this I mean I cant even get full time and im sick of it :( i still have 3 years of college (masters biggrin) but even after i graduate i wana stay with the company. I guess because its all I've ever known. So are the odds in my favor??  because I like running floral

I would definitely say the odds are in your favor, especially if you have to run the dept often when your lead is on vacation. You just need to sign postings when they come up.

Head floral clerk is not a department head. Check your contract.  I believe that are "lead" clerks.

They still get a pay increase don't they?
In my store the depts that are supposed to only have "lead clerks" have manager on their name tag.

For example, Floral Manager, Salad Bar Manager, Frozen Manager.

Those are all lead clerks, meaning it's basically a sub-department of a bigger department. Techinically the only "managers" or "dept heads" are grocery, drug gm, produce, deli, and meat. Possibly bakery but it depends on the store and the size.

Deli dept = Deli, bakery, salad bar, starbucks/coffee shop

Grocery = Grocery, frozen, dairy

Produe = Produce & floral

Honestly if I saw someone that had the title "salad bar manager" i would probably think it was a joke.

Salad bar is part of Produce (along with Nutrition) not Deli. At least around here. But yes her name tag really does say Salad Bar Manager, i didn't realize it was something unheard of.

We have a bakery manager (who is under the deli manager) but there is no bakery backup, officially.
