I was hired as a checker in the mid south branch of kroger stores, Immediately I could tell there was going to be issues, dispite how friendly the hiring lady was, I was only given 2 shirts when I was supposed to receive 3. I was given 2 hours of training the first day and none the second day meaning most the time I looked like a total idiot to management as I constantly asked for help, I later found out I was supposed to receive 4 days of training, a couple weeks in they got on me for ring tender despite me being told during the 60 days all they wanted to see was improvement which I was. I got the typical new guy crap such as on express lane more than most people, but that was too be expected, I started to notice a floor supervisor just did not like me, due to just luck or because I always needed help the first 2 weeks as I received little training, I do not know, but while she was outwardly polite I got a lot of smart answers and dirty looks. One time she even pulled me off a full lane to put me on an express lane because her friend didn't want to be on it, I was told by a manager that it was normal so people got breaks, yet I never got to switch off an express lane, or even get to be in a real lane as I will mention below A few weeks later I started getting 32-35 hours a week part time despite putting down I was only available 30 and being promised I would probably not even work 30 but certainly no more. During that time I was being worked sometimes an hour and a half past my break time by the same floor supervisor, one time not even getting my second break. Leading me to make a few mistakes here and there only making me look worse. I was then continuously put on express lane regardless of if I was scheduled for it or not, only receiving two days on a full lane in around 13 days, the rest regardless of hours or such I was put on express, the only two days I was on a full lane was when the floor supervisor was the friendliest and most helpful person.
I was never told that my ring tender continued to be low, the last I heard it was improving and was almost 90% with a few days being over, I was never told there were any other problems or even talked to, I had no idea there was a problem until 2 days the probation was over, I was called up during a 7 hour shift on express lane, informed my ring tender was not up to speed and that in the past a check had come up missing so they were firing me, I was never notified about a check or anything else, and they even admitted it could have been anyone fault from the person giving me a break to the person auditing the till.
I just needed to rant, but I would highly discourage anyone from working here if possible, I had a customer threaten to slap me after he put his wallet down in front of the electric belt eye and it set it off, the manager I told told me it was a joke. even though other employees told me he had no right to say that. I feel the company, and the lower and mid level management in general have zero regard for employees. I worked multiple sundays in a row, all holidays, my birthday, only requested a single day off, never came in late except for once in a the beginning, was never rude to management or a customer.

I'm very sorry you've had such a horrible experience with kroger. Just count yourself lucky they let you go and you will no longer have to deal with that kind of thing.
Take care.

Any other suggestions? I planned to check out walmart
It USED to be. I honestly can't recommend it any more, other than for students and retirees; trouble is, it's like this with most retail jobs any more. These days I recommend to young people for whom college is not an option, to get a C.D.L. or trades training, like welding/HVAC. Those jobs seem to still be plentiful.
That sucks and I'm sorry you had to go through that. It sounds like you were being set up, or some other crap being as they did not have the common decency to let you know anything. Two days before your probation ended? It sounds like they did this deliberately so you wouldn't have anything to use against them being as you were on probation. I hope things turn out better for you.
well it was probation. we aren't firing people for ring tender in my store.
feel free to apply at another store. i've known people who've been let go at the end of a probation in one store and picked up at another.
the best practice is to put your fastest cashiers on express. is that how we're scheduling? no. we still put slower people up there with the silly notion it'll make them faster if they have to do everything.
we also don't provide that much training. when i was hired i got a few minutes with someone and told to ask questions. now we're wasting at least three shifts pairing people up with questionable results.
car insurance is only needed like once a year. >_>
I have to pay monthly
I think BagBoy was referring to renewing your car registration. Unfortunately you'd be gambling with not having insurance and some states will penalize you if there are gaps in your coverage.
I'm sorry it was not the way you expected it, but at the end of the day theu go based on your availability. If you just SAID you wanted less than 30 hours but didn't formally write it on an availability sheet then they are not OBLIGATED to keep you under 30. They are going to use you when they need you not tje other way around. And did you do computer training? That counts as your 4 day.
Btw they do that woth just about everybody. The floor supervisors and management dont have time to waste training you. I started off as a cashier at 15 and all they did was show me how to how to do credit debit amd food stamps. I had no clue how to do a check or wic none of that. my first floor supervosor was cool but the store manager hated me! :(
Anyway I'm sorry again for how they did you but you aren't the only one. Dont let I t discourage you tho. Today I'm a bakery manager 25 yrs old anout to complete ten years here. 14 an hr, I was a cake decorator lead till they promoted me this year. :))) Kroger paid to teach me about cake design and managing the bakery. Its not a bad place, though sometimes its hell, especially holidays but they can help you move up.
Sucks you had such a bad experience. I worked for Walmart for 5 years and enjoyed it until I moved and transferred to a super center. Before I had worked in one of the home town stores. At the super center I no longer felt like an individual to them as much as a number so I ended up leaving and going back to Kroger. Anyways good luck to you in your job search. Hope you find somewhere with nicer coworkers.
