Finally got promo'd to checker/produce!! No more being front end "gopher" and "fodder!" Time for respect!! I may still push carts unfortunately, but it will be very rare if ever. But km going to be one of the nicer checkers by NOT calling a utility/courtesy clerk for every little thing. Iif I can do it myself, I will. They had me check today, during peak hours, and I kept my line flowing smoothly. Hope it works out coz I'm enjoying it so far
I think a kid I know is losing brain cells as a utility clerk. I think he was uspet the other day and was wanting to quit. I want to encourage him to stick around and try to get into other departments but not sure how to approach him on the subject. He is an asset to Kroger. I am not sure how he should approach the store managers on the subject.
He's not a pokey worker, just very cautious and needs to learn how to pick up the pace. My department manager gets a sour face when I mention the kids name. I am not sure what the history is. I might ask my department manager to give him a shot and let my reputation ride.
Hope it works out for him. And utility clerk was ok... Not the best but ok... Pay is not to swift. But easy enough work. As a produce/checker clerk I get my raises and get to work a register. The only real tricky thing is remberimg produce codes. And also at my store, where overtime is one of the 7 deadly sons, we have to wait for relief to go home. If relief doesn't come on time, then it's OT.but management usually comes to relieve us if our regular relief is a mo show
So how long did it take you to get promoted out of being a Utility Clerk. I am a Utility Clerk right now (for 3 months now) and I would love to be moved to Cashier or just about anything else. What was the process? Did you have to ask about it or did they just decide you were doing a good enough job? Very curious on how this works.
They noticed I was a hard worker and did what they asked of me. I asked management about advancing and they agreed. They trained me. As for how long I been with the company 15 years and I did some studying on produce codes on my own and paid attention when other checkers asked how things were done in the check stand. I went from there. I guess I shocked management when they tried looking up apple codes (say 4021 for example, and I just said apples? 4021. Just an example.)
