Over-weight Kroger employees
Permalink

I weigh 325 lbs. and work the night stock crew, and this past week my knees were killing me and it made it so painful to do my work!!! And it is  because I started walking on my days off to try and get exercise to lose the weight.  Plus,I started using the kiosk in the pharmacy to check my blood pressure and it is in the stage 2 pre-hypertensive.  I've had many family members die from heart attacks and just last week a cousin of mine had to have heart surgery to put In a stint.

I bought a P90X iPhone app For $59.99 but haven't started using it yet, because I put it off.  I'm not the only over weight employee at my store, I can count three other guys on day shift that work in other departments that I know that are just as BIG, or BIGGER than me!!!

I was just wondering if there are any employees on here with weight problems, and are you trying to work on it too?  I hate being fat.

I am not that big. I weigh something like 219 lbs. When I first started, I was exhausted but my stamina has really increased and I have lost about 10 lbs. just from how physical working at Kroger is (I'm a bagger/cart pusher).

I wish you luck!

I'm about 200 pounds.

I go for a walk every day so that helps, plus I get to run around the bakery all day too. :P I haven't really lost much weight but it's prevented me from gaining weight so thats something.

Well the thing is i'm 350 lb and I work full-time, but that doesn't slow me down. Even though I am a "big" boy i'm very strong as well. I break down the trucks and I stock and cut as well. I worked 5 carts of lunchmeat, worked 2 pallets of frozen, 3rd cut, ordered supplies, waited on customers, filled the counter, and packaged up all the red meat in the service case!

at 237lbs I just take things slow and I don't use my knees as stools. if I have to stock something on the bottom two shelves I sit and when I need to get up I don't use my knees either.

I have hypertension. It also runs in my family. For the past 3 weeks I've been walking and eating a little better and managed to drop close to 8ibs. I went to my produce dept and got some veggies that I like. maybe you should try that. Can't go wrong with the basics. wink

I used to be more overweight than I am (I have a picture of the shirt-buttons popping off my shirt to prove it), and I have a history of heart trouble in my family. I've also known a few overweight guys and gals over the years of working. But, I've lost a lot of weight, too. I always say that working at Kroger is one of the best forms of exercise you can get, and you don't have to pay for a gym membership!!! A friend of mine, who is the receiver at our store, inspired me to start eating better and getting more exercise. He used to weigh more, but he's dropped a few pounds, too. He runs a lot, too. Well, I started walking more, and we even had a "walking challenge" at our store (Anone else participate in this?) where I psyched myself up to walk the recommended number of steps, and I did it with a few hundred steps left over. It wasn't easy, no, but I still use that pedometer I was given, and I do check my blood pressure in the pharmacy, as well. I think that's a good thing that not enough people take advantage of. Being healthy may be good for the company, but it can make you happier, too. And the nice thing about working at Kroger is that there are healthier choices in regards to food, as well. I even psyched myself up to eat nothing but salads for a week...And you know what? I actually did it, and believe me, that wasn't something I was used to doing!!! Not by a long shot!!! But then, my manager and co-manager started eating more salads for lunch,so maybe I inspired something. I don't know, but I still eat salads, maybe not every day. I do try to eat more fresh fruit, too. A while back, we had a girl at work suffer a small heart attack, too. She's OK now and back to work, but it does get you thinking about what you could be doing to better yourself and your health. And watch the stress, too...I find that a good walk is a good way to work off a lot of the stress from work, so it's at least worth thinking about...You never know...Just like I was inspired, you could be the inspiration for somebody else!!!

Hello, everyone this is the OP, and I have lost some weight!!!  I now weigh 307lbs still heavy and need to loose more, plus I got the blood pressure under control.   I've been taking two teaspoons of Bragg's apple cider vinegar in a glass of apple juice before each meal and it reduces my appetite, it is very healthy to take, and it is good for all kinds of things that I won't mention.

"Shift work has been linked to higher rates of type 2 diabetes, heart attacks and cancer."

"Studies have shown that shift workers getting too little sleep at the wrong time of day may be increasing their risk of type-2 diabetes and obesity.

Others analyses suggest heart attacks are more common in night workers."

Way to improve your health? Get out of overnight stock.

Update I'm down to 296 lbs. and feeling great and going to keep on the losing till I get to my ideal weight.

I work on the night stocking grocery crew and for the last couple of weeks they have had me come in early at 10:00pm and help bust down the grocery truck, and stock a couple of aises so I get off early at 6:00am and I love it!!!  No managers to mess with me.  Well this morning I saw a customer that I haven't seen in 15 years, I used to check her groceries when I was a cashier, and I hate workIng on the front end. Well I've always thought that she was pretty, and she still is but, she has gained a lot of weight and she must be getting close to 40 years old, and I'm like the 50 year old virgin.  I was wondering if I should try to ask her out, or just try to get to know her, I've always have been shy with women and it might be hard for me to do.
