I'm normally out of town on my day off and have to sometimes call in for my schedule. One day when I did this I got a lecture and a "don't do that again" speech. I let it slide, but when I was hanging up I heard, "Oh, this person is calling about their schedule again." Well, that snide comment pissed me off and I've lost any and all respect for that person. I know they have a job to do but being a smartass isn't one of them.

Ask the person who made the comment why it bothers them so much to give you your schedule. People at our store do it all the time. If you're off on Friday and Saturday you're not going to know what your schedule is for the next week unless you either call and get your schedule or make a trip to the store just to get it. In some cases the latter isn't possible.
I used to hate calling in because I was afraid someone would get pissy about it with me, i know people are busy but it takes what, 5 seconds to check it? In that sense I'm happy I can now check the schedule online. I still check the store copy but at least i have a general idea and so far the paper copy has never been different.

Just wait until you get a department head who can't make out a bi-department schedule. Fun times.... /sigh

5 seconds? No.
When people call the service desk asking for their schedule it's usually on a Friday when it's slammed. I may not even have the correct schedule yet. If it's at the desk, I may have to find it under the piles of paper or where it wandered off to because some cashier or bagger or floor person or whomever took it with them. Most of the time I'm answering the phone while at the Western Union terminal or a register. There's only ever been one person ask if it was busy before begging for his schedule. Bless him!
Thank ya kindly for the nickname compliment, anon. I'm a big Mad Max fan and I just started using that around my store. It gets a good laugh from those who get it. Anyway, I call in early mid-mornings before it gets too busy and I only ask what time I come in the next day. I come in, do my shift, and get the rest of my schedule after it's over. Also, two copies are made. One for Customer Care and one posted in the back.

I never let folks give out schedules over the phone except for rare circumstances. Wanna know when you work? Come in and look. We're too damn busy to do that for you. Besides, it always left an opening for someone to cheat the system and say they were told wrong what the schedule was. Seems harsh, but them's the breaks.

If that is the worst thing that happens to you that day, then you are having a great day. I thought a Cart Warrior(cool nick btw) would be able to shrug something like that off and not let it get under your skin. Make a friend that lives close to the store and beg them to go in to check the schedule for you.
My experience with someone asking for their schedule over the phone. I am extremely busy on Sunday nights. 2 people doing a 3 person job in the grocery department. I need to go in there and hit the floor running the entire 8 hours to get the work done.
One night I heard the phone ringing at the customer service desk at 11 pm. I decided to answer it. It was a fellow employee from another department asking about their schedule for the next morning. I set the phone down, walk all the way upstairs on the other side of the store into the breakroom. I copy the schedule for their department. I walk all the way back down stairs to the phone. I had a cashier doublecheck the times I see. Then I tell the person when they are due in. It took atleast 5 minutes. I forgot what I was doing before playing mother to get someones schedule.

Awesome. You need a good schick so people know who you are. You seem to have that covered. I love the Mad Max movies too and I rarely watch movies or TV.
I go to a local junkyard and the workers in the yard remind me of the badguys in the movies. Nice guys but I would hate to get on their bad side..
Is the newest MadMax movie out yet? Previews looked promising.

I've heard people use that excuse. They'll throw someone else under the bus in a second. The other thing is we don't have a master schedule for the store at the service desk. I'm not walking all around the store, upstairs and down, to find your hours.
It does not matter if that person is of a different race or gender it is against company policy to really give out a person schedule over the phone i know first had I used to be a staffer and sometime it does not be that person calling in to get there schedule it could be an ex-boyfriend or girl friend.
So, now I'm curious after reading some of the comments.
Is the majority opinion here that every employee must come in on Saturday, even if he or she does not work that day, just to check the schedule? I mean, that's basically what a lot of you are saying.
The company spends much time training on HOW to DO the job the Kroger way and this is good however, I have seen no training to the associate on interpersonal skills. You would think one of our managers would have picked up this common problem and suggest that Kroger look into this.
If the person who made the comment was the manager of your department then you should confront him or her and tell the person how terrible it made you feel and how would they feel if it happened to them. If you get no positive response, you should take it up with a higher authority at your store. The worse thong you could is do nothing, it will only get worse.

No one is asking you to. Why don't you just transfer the call to the proper department and have them check the person's schedule?
