demoted and....

I have been the acting dept head since May.  Today management said I just don't care enough so they demoted me.  Found out the girl taking over has received money from the manager and the manager  bought the girl gift cards as personal gifts etc.  I didn't think managers could do that.  Plus the new guy has had a no call no show with no punishment and he attends the manager's church.  Hmmmm.....

Agreed. I am going to call the union. Our store has trouble getting them to do anything though because our union is in another state. I need to look into the money giving etc.

No write ups. I was not provided help when I took over the department, just tossed right in. When inventory came around, the new co manager finally got people to come from other departments to help stock (there's only 3 of us in the dept. and for a month there were just 2) so I could do all the extra stuff. After that it was you guys are doing good, you're kicking butt. Monday they called both me and my acting back up in the dept saying that we need to get the dept running better. Conditioning needs done everyday and today (the back up) didn't do it and that can't happen again. The replenishment needs done both morning and night etc.

Also that day is when they changed Wed. schedule. Store manager said I should have come back in off the clock and helped the new guy do his work. Then said oh you should have just come in and showed him where to find this or that. Mind you left a note, with pictures and called the store. He didn't get conditioning done either but she said that's ok, he's new.

And the managers and the back up messed up writing the schedule for this week (obviously) for Thursday. I came in when I was scheduled. Somehow I should have known to come in at 8am because another employee told me hey you should be the one at 8am. Huh? So I don't care enough. To that I said, I was scheduled at 1230. If I was to be in at 8 and you knew, how is that my fault. Oh, manager said we forgot but when that employee told you-you should have just come in.

You need to fight this.  You worked as scheduled.

That manager needs to be fired.  Never work off the clock.

left message with the union guy. will call back monday. also called my district coordinator and told him I was demoted. I aplogized for not knowing about coming in early. I asked him to call be but if he cannot keep that between he and I then it's fine. The store manager did lend my replacement money. I will mention also all the times she has been late. All the employees who quit my department because of her attitude among other things. Thanks for all your replies.

It's not just against the contract, it's against Federal Law for them to tell you to work off the clock and that's stated in the contract.

Trust me I know. I mentioned that. That's one of the times the co manager upstairs with her said hey you're getting close to insubordination. Also I stated that schedule changes are supposed to be made by Saturday noon. I said I didn't think they could be changed officially after that. The manager rolled her eyes and yelled that's not true. Why did you change it then? (for the Wednesday shift) I replied because you said I had to because you guys missed his availability and no one would have been here in the morning. As for the coming in off the clock, she tried to make it seem like coming in the store and finding the stuff for the guys, showing him where it is and what to do wasn't "working" and that is just what department heads are supposed to do.

I am still not understanding how the hell they said I was just supposed to know to come in early on that Thursday when I was down for the 1230 shift. I was on vacation last week and they admitted they forgot to schedule me correctly. I have NEVER been advised when another employee says hey, you should have been the one scheduled in the morning, that I should automatically come in. that sounds to me like management go ripped by the big wigs for not scheduling me so they in turn blamed me.

Another thing that has been bugging me is in the morning whoever is working is supposed to condition certain aisles, do an OOS review and morning replenishment. Yet, the co manager has told 2 of my guys to skip doing it because it is dumb. Then they say evening replenishment is taking too long. Argh!

you definitely need to be talking to a union steward.  have one with you for these chats as a witness.  you have that right.

i've realizes some people should never be managers.  they let power go to their heads.

She's a big fat liar.  Be sure to record any conversations you have with her.

I called the union who basically said she cannot just demote me. there had to be progressive discipline. I cannot work off the clock. (no kidding) and I cannot be in trouble for coming in when i was scheduled. I found out yesterday that the girl and the co manager who wrote the schedule (i was on vacation) were reminded numerous times that i had to be in whatever morning that was. Also the co manager was reminded Saturday and wrote it down to change it but still never did. So people are saying I was set up big time. i either get my position back or file a grievance.

I have also discovered that the store manager and the girl they promoted have been spending time together outside of work. Also when I worked with the girl yesterday she was a cold ignoring person. She said one thing to me yesterday-i don't know how to do stuff so you'll have to teach me. i am thinking but they said i didn't do my job but they want me to train you. um-okay.

Girls boyfriend is going to be promoted too over the guy who is in the role as dairy back up also. Add more fishiness to the story.
