I start college classes next week. I've let them know about my new availability and they've honored it without much resistance. Though, I noticed that I've been scheduled three 8 hour shifts for the week (the three days that I'm available).
Would they raise a fuss if I ask it to be cut down to 5 hours/day?
I'm only a part-time stocker. Also, I guess I'm uncomfortable with having to ask them to scale me back more since I used to work 5 hours for 4-5 days so I'd like to ask them in a "better" time.
It's not because the work is "difficult" or I hate management. It's just that I'd like more time for my studies, especially since I'd be on campus for 12 hours on days I have classes.
They moved this other person who I normally worked with (as a part-time stocker, too) from Dairy to courtesy clerk.
That strikes me weird, since we barely have enough people in Dairy to run the department. A few hours ago I finished my five hour shift scanning backstock for the first time (which I've butchered), but I found out that NO ONE was working in Dairy between when the lead leaves (2 PM) and when I come in (5 PM).
I'm worried that if I ask for less hours, they'll just say "You'd might as well quit", which I can't exactly do, at least not until I secure another job.
I'm sure a majority of people here will probably tell you you're lucky to have the hours. Yeah, balancing school and work can be hard, but it will pay off in the long run. Just do your best.

you're only get 24 hrs. what you can do instead of asking for fewer hours is tighten your availability so you have more hours to study. and you might put that as the reason.
giving up 10 hrs is a lot though and they might not have someone to give them to. the can't give them to a full time person and want to keep part timers hours under 29.
