I heard that courtesy/utility clerks aren't on management's mind unless it gets really busy. I know one who would always hide in the dairy cooler and chill in there for some time.
Working as stocker/clerk on other departments normally end with you being called over the PA system to bag.
And if you're a new hire (like I was then), the manager would always keep an eye on you (unless you're courtesy/utility). Fortunately for me, my manager always watched me like a hawk not to find reasons to berate me, but to let me know how things should've been done properly, especially since I told him that it was my first job.
