Utility clerk used as cashier

Was recently moved from courtesy clerk to utility...... How exciting, but Ihave been    running the register as well for about 2 years now whenever they needed me too, manager however as of late has been a HUGE prick and I was wondering if I could file a grievance on his ass for this, keep in mind they are still paying me for utility clerk when I'm on register

How much do you like being employed?

I read a post below that a Utility clerk is not supposed to be running the register and not supposed to be stocking products.  They can pretty much do anything else.

You will be picking the grass outside or washing all the glass in the store everyday forever if you stir too much ****.  And never be promoted from that position in that store.

Yes, you could complain to the shop steward.  They will put an end to it and you can go back to the regular mind numbing boring tasks.

BTW, Our Union Rep found out Our Utility clerk was running stock and put an end to it.  The manager got in trouble.  He is now getting good at cleaning glass!!

In our store, the meat department is under a different union contract.  No one except meat department people are allowed to work in that department.

How long do you plan on working for kroger?  That is a dead end position, basically a glorified bagger.  The pay at out store tops out at $7.60.

I'm about to start my junior year in college, so not much longer hopefully, just figured it would be a good way to piss off the manager

Some CBAs require that you are paid at the next higher rate for doing jobs above your classification. You msieve due for more money for every hour you've spent doing tasks that are above your grade.

This. Check the contract for language relating to this. In Central Division, any time a bagger ran a register, it was a huge deal with the union. You could piss off a manager AND get some cash out of it too. Won't be hard to figure out wen you did it either, since MAX tracks when you log onto a register and all (hint, hint, nudge, nudge).

Of course this most likely is contract-specific. My contract only has store clerks and courtesy clerks (at least for the clerks who this would involve.) Courtesy clerks can bag, clean, do daily utilities, etc. but they can't cashier or work in other depts. Store clerks can do anything in the store (including bag.) We don't have a utility clerk job classification. It's just a daily assignment.
