What the **** is the point of a midnight cashier
Permalink

Again I have to work to midnight. I find it very pointless because after ten no one comes in well rarely 10-12 about 5 customers  and they all go through self check . So I'm waiting there with nothing to do so they get mad at me because I look bored. Re shop is all finishEd so I'm pretty much left to pray midnight to hurry up

Yeah. This is why the OP is actually making me angry...

I wish our store had a cashier around that time. Instead, all that's open from about 10:30 to 1:00AM is self-checkout, and I've ran across quite a few customers who acted really rude because they didn't feel like going through self-checkout. Plus if it's slow, a cashier working at that hour can clean all the registers, work on returns, conditioning, etc.

My store is open 24 hours and there's usually a couple customers in there at midnight. If there was no cashier in at that time, i'm sure someone would complain.

I don't give a ****. I live in a small town. No one is coming in and when I have to beg them to leave me crap to do, they don't. The courtesy clerks finish everything before I get there. All reshop is put up, registers are cleaned, bathrooms cleaned, everything has already been dusted etc etc. Like I said small town and no one ever comes in and if they do they run straight to the self check because theyre usually just buying snacks.

I agree with you. Given what you've described, it's wasted pay roll.

sounds like a waste of your time and company money.  i'm sometimes scheduled til midnight too.  even though i'm in a city it's still a waste.  If it's a Sat I'll see if the person pulling tags didn't finish and needs help.  The last cashier is there til about 11:30 anyway so it's just redundant.  the orders aren't big enough to need a bagger, they all leave about 10.  Last time I cleared the lot, did go backs and still had 30 minutes.  it looks like there's only two of us that get these super late shifts too.  It's irritating.

Ok so I guess no one wants to assist me with giving myself a clever identity. Guess nobody's here, bummer, I have many keen observations to share.
