i used to be a dept head and made a family decison that the extra funds being a dept head is not worth the constant stress and headaches, key retail and the other unreasonable demands. Losing alot of good people and replacing them with inferior managers who dont care anybody else.
I hear what your saying and I've seen it first hand myself. How about those dept heads that really care about their depts and give 110%. A friend of mine was a dept head who was not allowed to schedule all of the hours that elms forecast for a holiday week, ended up coming in on his one day off to cover gaps in the schedule. So then they tried to write him up for it, can you believe that crap? Just because he gave a sh*t, so that was it for him. Dept heads get all the pressure to do more and more, seem like they have a big target on their backs.
I used to be a backup and stepped down after 10 years. I didn't think things could not get worth but they have. Saturday morning I was scheduled with one person till noon. Had 2 50pc chicken orders by 11. Counter full of people. Didn't have chicken in steam table by 10:30. Costumer complaint to manager. She called and ask why we dosent have chicken ready. My coworker told her there were only 2 of us but it would be ready in 20 minutes ,just what he had told the lady. Guess what the manager said. THAT is NO EXCUSE. Are you kidding me. I thought slavery was out. It's alive and well in the Kroger deli. And guess what? I really liked my job. Now I can't wait to get out.
That's the whole point of Key Refailing--to get rid of people.
The whole point of key retailing is so that when those old dept heads retire, some young person can come in and run a department without 38 years of experience. It's a work in progress, yes, and hopefully there are some experienced folks out there giving input.
