This eschedule is bad for minors
Permalink

I'm a minor, student in Highschool, cashier.

I don't work on Sundays or Mondays

My avalability is 430-9 Tues-Fri and USED to be all day Saturday.

Until this eschedule thing came into play. It'd schedule me 430-9 Tuesday-Thursday then 12-8 on Saturdays.

This is just way too many hours for me? Considering I only have this job for money since I'm supported by my family, I don't even really need the money....and I said on my original paper that I don't want to work more than 16 hours.

Then this E-Schedule came into play and it scheduled me like 25.5 hours last week...I think I have about 24 this week.

I like that it's convenient with checking my schedule and all but the manager doesn't even glance at the hours people are given.

Well, there are a lot of schedules and such but I think they should at least look at the minors' schedules...because this thing gives me way too many hours.

I cut back my Saturday hours from all day to 2-9

And guess what it started scheduling my Saturdays.

Not like I do anything over the weekend or what not, I just am getting way too stressed out to be able to do my School and Work...plus some bad family issues are going on and ugh it's all just way too much with me...tooo much stress disbelief

Not to mention sometimes I even get more hours than the people who actually need the job?? It makes me feel horrible.

I've worked here for over a year and it hasn't been stressful until now.

UPDATE: Plus the union law is at least 15 hours a week so my request wasn't too low [and theyd follow it before!]

Is management aware of this, or do they just not care?

It might be worth dropping down to courtesy clerk.  They are allowed more flexibility in their scheduling.

Please send your extra money that you don't need to my paypal account.  Thanks.

A computer program is only as good as the person inputting the information and how on the ball the programmer is.  There are many "features" that still need to be ironed out with the Escheduling.

Speak to whomever used to do the cashier scheduling.  If that is the manager you are talking about, then speak to your main store manager about the issue in person.  Putting your request in writing may help.  If that doesn't help, ask your shop steward to get involved.  If that doesn't help, complain to HR.

We start Eschedule in 2 weeks.  From reading this forum, the computer doesn't follow proper logic when scheduling.  There are many complaints.  One whole store is grieving it!?  I can't wait for the circus at our store.  It seems to pretty much ignore requested days off, senority and availability requests!

The store manager and a few department managers are able to change the schedule manually.  Yes, they should be looking over the schedule and making adjustments before it is posted.  Definitely offer the hours to people that actually need them.  Eschedule is designed to keep part timers under 26 hours.  Keep in mind, the people not getting enough hours might have their availability too limited for the computer parameters.

I hope all gets better at home for you.

Focus on school.  The sky is the limit with an education.  You write well for a high schooler and I see a higher education ahead of you.

Try to be patient with Eschedule.

We are going through the e-schedule thing now and its possible for the department manager to restrict your hours down. It easy the department head/store manager goes in the personal page for you s/he will be able to drop your maximum hours to 16. It is possible for them to do. Now if you don't really care about working or not restrict the hell outta yourself. You do have that option. Which im not being mean it just an easy way to work only the shifts you want.

Talking to whoever is in charge of the schedules is the best advice I can offer. It's what I had to do when it tried to schedule me for file maintenance on a day by myself to cover for our lead file maintenance during one of her vacation days... despite the fact that I still haven't been trained to do audits yet. I just went and talked to the person who works on the schedules and she shifted those hours for me from that department into another department for the week no problem.

I'd never go back to a bagger. It sucked. And its worse.

I talked to my manager, and we fixed my hours up.

I've been a cashier since Feb., it's not the cashiering that's stressing me out. It was the hours.

I worked pretty hard to be a cashier so I'd never ever go back down.

Thank you very much for your comment! I did talk to my manager and she fixed it for me.

Thank you everyone else for answering as well!

I didn't like Eschedule at first to be honest, but now I realize it isn't THAT bad. I just don't like to see me getting more hours than those who need it more than me. Though that's true, they could have their availability restricted as well.

Hopefully home gets better, thank you for your sympathy, and thank you for the education comments. It made me smile.
