It's more that we would have overcharged you if you didn't have your shopper's card.
Without the card, our prices are unreasonably high and you would have to be a fool to pay them.
Waiting to give me your card at the end means you are an idiot. It lowers my CCG's, and there should be nothing exciting about watching prices fall to fair at best. Walmart is generally cheaper.

Walmart's not cheaper where I am. I noticed this as a customer when I moved to this area the first time. It doesn't matter when the card is scanned, you aren't penalized in ring/tender.
If your ring/tender isn't good enough it's because you're doing something else wrong like talking too much while to a bagger while scanning too slow or don't know your produce codes.
Walmart, and especially ALDI, are where I spend a majority of my grocery money because unless Kroger has a really good sale on something, the prices are higher where I am. Sometimes the difference isn't much, sometimes it is, but when I see people loading up their carts with stuff that I know is cheaper elsewhere, I just wonder what's going through their heads. Kroger produce especially is really high while ALDI produce is the cheapest in town while still retaining generally good quality. If more people were willing to give the "off brands" at ALDI a chance and if people weren't so lazy (big deal, you have to bag your own stuff... oh the horror), ALDI stores would have full parking lots. It's no wonder corporate considers ALDI and Costco to be the two biggest threats down the line. Shoppers are going to wise up eventually.
ALDI stores are awesome and my family gets a lot of stuff there but they don't exactly have a huge selection on things like produce. If you want lettuce fine but if you want 100 random organic things you'd have to go to Kroger still.

It can definitely impact your ring tender, depending on how the customer handles it. If there are 2 of them or 1 who is a fast unloader, they can keep items available to scan immediately after the card is scanned, not negatively impacting your ring/tender time. However, if you wait until the end to scan the card, the entire time you are waiting for sale prices to ring up is time you are using but not getting credit for in elms. It gets even worse if they have to search for the card because you have neglected to ask for it until that point. The time you lose can be quite significant on larger orders, which are where many cashiers gain the most advantage in ring/tender.
