PLU Codes

Anyone know where I can get a PLU chart with both numbers AND pictures?

The only thing my store has is a table/list.

Unfortunately, I can't tell apart 284710419078 different kinds of potatoes and 2418971249870 different kinds of leafy vegetables and tomatoes. Pictures corresponding to numbers will help me greatly.

All I know for now is that bananas are 4011 and organic bananas are 94011.

There is a copy on my division's kweb of the plu roller sheet that has a few pictures, but not many. Honestly, your best option, though not a great one itself, is to go to self-checkout and go through the menu that lets you select produce by picture. Every kind of produce has a picture with it. You might also wanna walk through produce and check tags. They should all have a plu listed.

We have charts posted at self checkout with PLU numbers and pictures, so there is such a thing.  The only problem is that they list a lot of produce we don't have, and it has PLU numbers for generic varieties instead of the actual varieties we carry.

Our self checkout machines have a lot of missing and reused pictures, and they list all million varieties of potatoes, so that's not necessarily helpful.

Take walks through produce when you are off the clock and out of uniform.  That way, nobody will bug you.  The PLU should be listed for most items.

Most produce has a sticker or a ribbon on it with the PLU as well.

They have lots of produce pictures with PLU codes. Also lots of other stuff on that website like "Tips for Cashiers" and "Supermarket Jokes".

It depends a lot on how many different items your store carries. For my store we carry and i know:

Tomatoes:
4799[normal],
4798[special?],
4087[Roma, small and oval]
on the vine aka bunch(have been coming in a bag with a scan bar lately)

potatoes:
4816[Yams]

onions:
4159 - videlia
4166 - Sweet
4669 - Red
4663 - White

peppers
4772[wax/sweet, normally yellowish and long],
4065[Green].
3121[Orange],
4688[Red],
4689[Yellow] and
Anaheim[looks like wax but Green]

You'll also get a lot of cucumbers(4062), cantaloupe(4050), cabbage(4069), Zucchini squash (4067)[cucumber but with a hat!], leaf lettuce(4076), corn(4087), garlic(4610), Pear(4409), Lemon(4053) Kale(4616)[Has a tail?] and mustard greens(4626).

If I don't know a code offhand i normally ask the other cashiers if they know what the number for "this" is. When in total doubt ask the customer what it is then look it up.

All of these numbers were from the top of my head, some might be wrong, but i'm pretty sure they are correct. All the others are normally exceptions at my store. All of these numbers are what i've learned in the past 3 years of working here.

Knowing those numbers should be able to get you through most of the things you'll encounter.

When I started cashiering I made my own list of veggies/fruits that sell all the time  made little "cheat sheet" also with codes to larger items like Rice - Capri Sun - WIC eggs etc so I could code them while customer went and got and not slow my time

best way to learn is walk around in produce - codes are on price tagsk
