Kroger is in bed with the union... union collects the dues and wont answer the phone or emails. most of time side with Kroger... why would the union sell out our part timers. Kroger gets away with more and more.
When ever I see posts on here about how union members need need to complain less and get involved more, I'm inclined to agree.
Go to the meetings. Keep current with new developments. Be an active participant in a service you're paying for. If there's truly corruption going on, only strength in undivided numbers will correct the problems.

I'm tired of hearing this B.S. If talking to a wall is your idea of a constructive way of using your time, go for it. The only thing the union cares about is getting your money. Nothing else matters.
I agree that the union is in bed with the Kroger company. I have a grievance right now and waiting for a meeting and everyttime I try to call the union rep he will not answer my calls or emails. I am scared that I am going to get screwed when I do have a meeting. I have been hurt before in a grievance.
I'd go with complaining to the officers and executive board first. They need to know if there is someone not pulling their weight. E-board members can have a lot of power, and if they're receiving a ton of complaints about a rep, they can be forced to shape up or leave.
of course, if that route doesn't work, then I'd threaten the NLRB/failure to represent route.
Let me clarify something: I have no dog in this fight. Hell, I'm not even IN a union.
But I've always believed in fighting for anything that is worth fighting for, and if I try and lose,well...I'll go down knowing that I didn't give it my best, but the best that could be given.
If all I do is sit back and expect things to happen without my personal involvement, how can I realistically complain when they D O N ' T ? A union is about unity. So, UNITE.

But, the problem is, your WRONG. A union is about taking the employees; money. If what you're saying was truly the case, there would not be CLOSED SHOPS. Unions are about FORCE, COERCION and THEFT.

No, he is RIGHT. Its YOUR fault for allowing your union to not be held accountable for doing its job! My union calls mes back WITHIN 30 minutes of me calling them. If i'm being written up he will show up to represent me. If your union representive isn't communicating to you when there is a problem record your findings. Save the call log, send emails, etc. YOU are the supervisor in these cases and failing to do so in a certain manner.

I have tried to hold the union accountable. This democratic organization has helped part timers get nothing. Absolutely nothing. The only people I see defending it are full timers. OP is correct. Part timers complain, go to meetings, are ignored. Granted, most people that attend the meetings are full timers while the part timers have a revolving door anyways so you can't really expect many of them to show up. It's a vicious cycle.
OP, the people defending the union are probably full timers. They get what they want then claim they "fought" for it, when the fact of the matter is, they just take stuff from the part timers, More for them, less for you.
And full timers/people with a lot f seniority complain that they get less because the vast majority of voting members are part timers, people with little seniority, and people that are only looking at what they get short term. There's your vicious cycle.

This is a half-truth if not a straight out lie. The "part-timers" as you put it are those that have been with the company for a while. Thus, they don't have plans to leave the company because Kroger is all they know or they DO have seniority and don't want to give it up.
I actually had a great union steward (who just quit). He was a full timer who understood the game and didn't lie or defend the indefensible like some people in this thread are doing. He was a full-timer, and voted no on every contract. Why? Because the only benefits that were being given were to full timers and people who had been there forever. The only reason the contracts even passed was thanks to these people. He attended union meetings, talked about how part timers should get at least SOMETHING, and actually cared about people in the store that had complaints. It was his fellow full timers and those under old contacts that he was upset with because they keep voting for the new contracts.
Anyhow, a lot of people in this thread are full of BS. They're making it sound like voicing your complaints will get you somewhere. And if they don't, file a "complaint." Yeah, go from complaining to one group to another and each one will just ignore you.
Once again, the only people that are probably defending this are full-timers/people who have been there forever who take from the part-timers. They don't care about you. They only really care about themselves. Sure, some of them will come on this forum and say some things need to change or defend the part-timers, but THIS IS ONLY WHEN IT DOESNT AFFECT THEM. In other words, they'll help pass awful contracts, then say it's everyone else's fault for not voting, voicing complaints, or whatever.
If your union is not doing anything then take them to court for all your union dues you have paid over all these years, that's the only way to hurt these kind of people in there pocket.
They are getting paid to do a job by your dues if you paid someone to remodel your house and they did not finish the job would you take them to court? Of course you would put the threat out there and see what they do then.
There are more part timers to vote on contracts than full timers. that makes it harder to protect benefits for people with full time and high seniority. How is that a lie or even a half truth?
