I'm a meat department employee and well loved by customers. I've have had a few tell me that the roast i've chosen for them was the best ever or my cooking tip really helped them. =)

My Views and Opinions do not reflect that of the Kroger company. I'm an indivdual expressing my 1st amendment right.
Let's get real. Kroger in the past was a good company to work for. I would not recommend working there to anyone now. The bottom line is their bottom line. Eschedule, department favoritism, horrible non engaging workers still getting all their hours. Kroger executives have way too much time on their hands. All they do is sit in their little world, and change policies based off percentages and other idiot ideas. Customers and associates are not percentages, they are people. I know that the more you kiss the peverbial butt, the qiucker you get promoted, get more hours, and get away with murder. It is so obvious at the store I work at. The promotions in the last year are a joke. No one cares about the customer. The meat department and the deli have the rudest workers EVER. It's all good though cause the store management team can not see past their own agenda.
every store is unique and different. people are intangible objects. what I mean by this is we are human and carry into the work world our personalities. when a good 100 employees form into a store's workforce, you make a 'family' or a 'city' each unique based off of these people. some are great. some suck. the store managers (human also) are the head of this city. If they suck or if they rule based off of old fashioned Roman mentality, then the store will reap what is sows. As for the deli, working there is a b*tch. You get abused but the customers for screwing things up (even though you didn't) then you get abused by management for being blamed for screwing things up (b/c they support the customer rather than you). So yea, it is easy to be rude over there once you have been beaten down by both the village population then whipped by Caesar numerous times. I swear to you, being a deli employee is one of the hardest jobs out there in the whole entire workforce. People just have no idea and they find it easy to take it out on those behind the counter.

With the exception of cashiers, my deli has absolutely the highest turn over rate of any area in my store. And it's been like that for all the years I've been there.

I attribute much of this to what thedude wrote.
I've worked deli for 4 years, at two different stores, and it REALLY sucks. I stick it out because I need the extra pay that comes with the huge extra headaches, but you're really screwed when you work there.
We have one particular customer who is a total bitch . . . she comes in for a sub a couple of times a week, and demands that one of two particular ppl make her sandwich (because they cut her 6 inch sandwich about 9 inches long, then only charge her about half price). She has to have Boar's Head meat, and demands about double the meat you're supposed to put on, then wants double cheese. If you charge her full price (it's extra for Boar's head, and supposed to be more extra for the added cheese,) she bitches and complains to management that you wouldn't do what she wanted, and you get in trouble for pissing her off. If you DO meet her demands and management finds out, you could get fired for "stealing." She hates me because I won't pander to her, and one night when we only had a few slices of tomato because we'd been really busy, she refused to take them. One of here "favorites" was making the sandwich, and I couldn't find any more tomatoes in the department, so I told him I'd go get some so she could have fresh ones. While I was gone, someone found ONE tomato hidden in a basket, so she told my manager that they should "send her home because she was rude and tried to make me wait for my tomato while she went off wandering around the store doing who knows what."
Luckily, my manager had seen when I left, and when I came back in just a couple of minutes with a huge load of tomatoes and peppers to restock with, she knew that not only had I not wasted any time, but I'd gotten back twice as fast as anyone else in the department would have. She pretended to the customer that she agreed with her, but after she left I was told that she knew what a bitch the woman was, and that her complaint was "bull****." The bitch still comes in every few days, and I have to be all sweetness and light with her, but so far I haven't had to actually WAIT on her beyond calling one of her favorites.
Here Here!!!! I am the Meat Mgr,, or should I say the I stepped down on June 30, 2013 and no replacement because no one wants to work in Buena Vista CO for $17 per hour w/ no meat cutting. I have worked for Kroger (city market) for 2 years. I started in Deli, and was promoted to Meat Mgr in Dec. last year. I left the Deli making $10.31 per hour (we are not a union store) and my stepdown has gone through and now I am making $10.41 per hour ( with still no meat manager). A 10 cent raise for almost a year's worth of service?????? Kiss my ass!!!! They still want me to do the ordering, order review's the inventory.. UH.. NO... I am just a meat clerk now.. Get a MGR in there to do this job. this summer my other associate and I worked 38 days straight, 9-10 hr days and not even so much as a Thank you, but what we did get was , you didnt do your F-3's for 2 days, and you missed order review 3 days.. YOur seafood sales are down, you need to quit ordering this or that even though it is in the case mgmt and the Planner. A customer (a veteran of our country and an amputee) asks us to cut his whole chickens in half for him and we gladly do it. Our DS was there and he told me I could not do that any more.. I said what about customer service.. His response.. is well, how do you knwo what you need in the case if you dont do your F'3's.. REALLY... They brag so much on customer first, and it is just smoke and mirrors. I thin that the people up in corporate, who have NEVER worked retail a day in their lives and are college edumicated idiots, need to come work the stores for 1 month.. I bet theire 272/80 and their WIES programs would come to a screaming HAULT. Customers are NOT ALWAYS right.. the thing that sucks, A customer this summer complained because we told them we could not get something in because that was a winter item and they dont cut it now, and the person LOST THEIR JOB!!! All they want to hear is the money is coming in the door and there is no problems.. THIS COMPANY SUCKS.. They threaten you with your job and write ups, through fear there is control..... well, write me the **** up and get rid of me, becacue I will always be customer orientated!!!!Deli is our favored department.. WE have ot throw her chicken load, freezer load and her various assorteds. I asked if we could have ELMS hrs to do this.. uh you know the answer to that.. LOL...OH man could I ramble.. but,... I have documentation for the past year of EVERYTING that has gone on and pictures to prove it.. Like.. Deli having nothing on the shelves but on prime time only showing 2 outs!! I have pictures showing at leat 31 outs.. I did this every day for a month. I have printed my orders, and printed the people who have changed my orders and then I get bitched out becuse I dont have it in the case. I was told htat I could not go get my dentures( it is a medical thing now as bacteria is running through my bloodstream) until the holidays are over... KISS MY ****ING WHITE ASS KROGER.. YOU SUCK AS A CORPORATION AND YOU TREAT YOUR CUSTOMERS/EMPLOYEES LIKE ****!!!!
