how can eschedule do this?

ok we've got a girl in the deli who has less seniority than I do (she has roughly 5 years), but still gets all day shifts (7-330 and 8-430), never works a night, doesn't work saturdays or sundays (EVER!).   Now that eschedule has rolled around, she's still got the same schedule.  Still 40 hours.  Seems like it would have forced her to work different hours, including nights and weekends, the way that it's done everyone else, myself included.  I'm sure they've "locked her in" with that schedule, but that is bogus!  I thought eschedule might be a good thing because it would put us all on a level playing field but I guess not!  So if I put in my availability on eschedule (mon-friday can't work past 4:30) what is it going to do to my hours?

Eschedule or not, there's a contract that needs to be abided by. Contact your union.

Sounds to me like she has her availability restricted, so she is basically guaranteed the good hours.  I hate people like that, because it makes people like me (open availability) pick up the crappy shifts nobody wants.

contact the union ... what union ... they don't answer the phones or will hang up on you .

amen.  i have noticed that in my dept.  full time people are supposed to be available any time except i'm the only one of us who actually is and they abuse the hell out of me because of it.  you say she's getting 40 hrs, are you also full time because there's separate seniority lists.  i was told i flat out i could not change my availability for any reason even though these other full time people use excuses of school, family or a second job to limit their availability.  i haven't figured out what makes them so damn special and why i was threatened with losing my status if i tried.

I like how you think the above 3 are considered excuses. Other than maybe the last one to an extent, the first 2 should come before ****ing Kroger any day of the week and you're a dumb ass if you think otherwise.

I'd say all 3 are valid reasons in this day and age. 2nd jobs used to be uncommon, but not anymore. Sometimes you need them just to pay the bills.

look at what i wrote.  they are allowed to limit their availability while keeping FULL TIME status.  I was told UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE could i curb my availability in any way and be full time.  what makes them so special?  why are they allowed that consideration and i am not?

 If you start limiting yourself more than just one day and aren't on a really old contract, then yeah, you're SUPPOSE to start losing seniority, at least where I work. It wasn't done like that until e-schedule rolled around, then it was fixed.

Anyhow, most contracts have this thing called a "preferred shift" clause. What it means is if you're part time, you're suppose to be getting early shifts (because early shifts are defaultly preferred, unless you tell the schedule writer you prefer some other times (2nd shift instead of 1st shift).

Now, when anyone below you on the seniority list has more hours than you, the schedule writer MUST give you more or the same hours. Granted, this only works if you're not limited because if you are, you might not be able to say you could work that shift. They must comply and either add on to your already existing hours or allow to take a shift from the other person or the entire person's week. If I were you, I'd start rolling for the entire week, if you think it's so much better. They must comply if you have the seniority. If not, contact the union. If the other person can't work the hours, you SHOULDN'T BE PENALIZED FOR IT, they should with a reduction of THEIR HOURS. Don't let em screw you over. Know your rights.
