I am currently a courtesy clerk. I was told a month ago that I was getting promoted to a cashier, but it hasn't happened yet due to a lack of training hours available.
Today, the dairy manager asked me if I wanted to join the dairy department. My question is what do you do if you work in the dairy department? I am trying to figure out if I should make the move.

depending on how big your store is, you do not want to be working the dairy, they'll expect you to do 10 different things at the same time in a short amount of time.

It's that way with any department. At least you can stop what you're doing to go do something else. I work in the bakery baking bread butI also have to bring up and put away orders. I have to work everything, including my breaks and lunch, around the bread. I can't just shove a cart of bread in the oven and go off and do something else and forget about it. I have to put the bread in and then say to myself, "Okay, I have 15 minutes to run to the back and load up a truck of frozen food and bring it back up." I takes 6 minutes just to walk to the back freezer and back again. I walk fast too
I kinda enjoy dairy sometimes. It can be a lot of work. Everyone has to pull their weight though. If you come in to a cooler that's a wreck and a truck that hasn't been touched yet, you're gonna have a bad time. If the dairy lead orders a bunch of yogurt but refuses to run it (leaving it all for you) you're gonna have a bad time. I imagine it would be better than front end though, yuck! at least you have a place to go hide or go scream. Who cares if someone outside the doors hears you, **** em!

lol. I have helped out in the dairy department a few times. Yah, the yogurt is a bitch. My arms are too large to be trying to load that stuff. That is a skinny arm persons' job. Not to mention, 700 varieties of yogurt! I was finally understanding the cheese and getting it to the right places. I normally work dry grocery only and our shelf tags are under product while dairy price tags are over products...
It doesn't matter where you are or what you are doing. Do the best you can and never let what others do or do not do get under your skin.

lets not forget working 70+ boxes and everyone expecting it to be done in 45 mins not counting the fact you gotta condense boxes condense backstock and rotate your dates before stocking
